Re: Looking at an avant with h&r
I'd say go for it but keep in mind the bank balance destruction that can occur "when" something happens (not if :D). Good Luck with your hunt! love it! I was planning on buying a forum car in the hope this would increase my chances! Also im guessing cars which have been looked after by MRC or Unit2...

Re: Looking at an avant with h&r
Matt - Yeap the gearboxes really are that fragile! They weren't designed to cope with the ridiculous torque the RS6 has (a fact known by Audi), especially after a remap, and I'd say the vast majority of cars will have had theirs replaced by 100,000 miles. Replacement costs start at £3500 for the ba...

Re: Looking at an avant with h&r
No offence but how much research have you done about the C5's? The gearbox issue would have been one of the first things you saw once you'd started searching. Do you have a large slush fund to accommodate any repairs that may sneak up on you? Such as EGT's, intercoolers, DV's, Coilpacks blah blah b...

Re: Looking at an avant with h&r
He has receipts for all the work he's done - I noticed the year in the photo as well?
Are the gearboxes really that fragile - How many miles do they tend to do?

Re: Looking at an avant with h&r
As long as it's possible to raise it then I don't mind it being a bit firmer.

Looking at an avant with h&r
Looking at an avant that looks great and has had all the bits done that are important but noticed its on H&R rather than the preferred Bils and is a little lower at the rear than I'd like? Is this common and is there a fix? If not what's the cost of getting Bil fitted properly? Link to car http://m....

Re: Newbie from the blue and white roundal
Cheers!
Have to say the whole process is making me nervous!
http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=109623 seems like a good forum car with some good gearbox maintenance history.
Don't really want to get this wrong!

Re: Newbie from the blue and white roundal
Thanks! Learned so much from reading through posts over last 2 weeks - seemed a car through a forum member or linked to MRC/ unit 20 seems the way forward. Already realised im looking for a car on coil overs, with plenty of preventative work and a good enthusiast history. What is rule 1? I've notice...

Newbie from the blue and white roundal
Hi, new to the forum, always been a Bm man as you can see from my car history but alway, always, always wanted a C5 RS6 Avant. I'm 90% there! Sensible option is a 535d Touring (which my wife prefers) but now seems to be the perfect time with the magical combo of: • gearbox going on my 530d • bit of ...
