Re: On the road again...

Maybe I'm the only one but this thread is getting confusing. mavada is getting some differing advice on how to remove the front dampers, compounded by corrosion and seized components, interrupted by other issues like shock and rebound settings etc. As a professional engineer, mechanic and mechanist ...

Re: On the road again...

Hi Ben, Thanks. Yes ive loosen those....till i tried to get the lower part of the shock loose. Ive seen those bolts are supposed to head towards the front, but for unknown reason mine are the other way around. So i cant get it out cos it will hit the lower control arm. So i think it has to be grind...

Re: On the road again...

.................and while we're on the subject of on the road again, took the RS6 to Church this week. 400 Km drive and a week staying in an old church to repent and visit the vines that are nearby. church.jpg And as they left the pulpit behind, I can read myself a sermon or preach to the converted...

Re: On the road again...

I’m sorry I’m late to the party, but you absolutely don’t need to remove the bastard bolt to do the shocks By removing the whole shock assembly i can see/check for worn parts better maybe. ...but you made me curious... There are only two reasons not to remove the pinch bolt: 1. The bastard bolt is ...

Re: On the road again...

Tony. Yes mate rate of expansion. IIRC To when I was an apprentice. Approx 50 years ago. M S 0.000045 per o C S S 0.000033 per o C etc. The point was you don’t need a lot of heat to expand the ally. And try to keep the heat transfer to a minimum. Mav. Did you insert a couple of wedges ? Steve, that...

Re: On the road again...

With the heat you are trying to slightly expand the ally. Without heat transferring to the bolt. So be quickish don’t leave the heat on the ally too long or the heat will transfer through to the bolt. Just a gentle heat your not attempting to make them glow. Before using the heat tap in a couple of...

Re: A Tale Of The Dead Battery & A Beeping Noise

I looked at doing that. There is some communication between the siren and the central convenience module, though, and the battery back-up complicates things somewhat. I'm sure it's fairly easy to find a solution to that, but I personally didn't bother. Like I said, if you think the factory alarm is...

Re: Cost of filling up ?

We aren't in your stratosphere for fuel prices but inside the last 12 months fuel where I get it has gone up 25%. About 75 pound a tank from bone dry. I think it would take a large degree of mental adjustment to pay over 100 pounds a fill though.

Re: Great looking Plus on A/T

Not a single under bonnet shot!!! Wonder why? I'm not in this camp where 999 cars is an exclusive run. What did you really get for that, a little badge and a tune freshen up plus a marketing sell. We're about 38% of the UK population and we only got 27 base RS6, no Plus. Thats approx 1 car per milli...

Re: Wire insulation issue

Nope, that is the main cable core showing in your photos. I'd say that you are just LUCKY that nothing has actually shorted out. The cable gauge is enough for significant current so a real event could see you up in smoke. No, I have nothing to offer on the SAI pump wiring. As you say, you know all a...

Electrical conduit

This may and may not be of any interest but I'll put in on the table just in case. Like some here I'm not keen on any permanent changes to the car that can't be reversed and the most common problem for me is additional wiring. I've added F & R dash cam and recently a reversing cam which all live up ...

UK Post has been on the ball and a "bufkin" pipe appeared today. Thanks Steve. I just grabbed a few "before and after" at the moment and will post later if there are any glaring differences.
