Apparently they are dimming, had no idea (only had it 4 years ). Was one of the reasons Audi gave for the price of the glass - does that really make a big difference?

Great advice from doodlebug - I asked for a breakdown of the cost and they immediately offered a goodwill gesture. They will supply the part gratis and I only pay the labour of £42!
