New ish owner Lancashire

Hi. After 5 years and 50k miles I have swapped my beloved c5 rs6 for a c6 today.

Same colour.
Looking forward to seeing what it's capable of.
Very happy so far :)

Re: Bilstein B14 fitted!

I've just received a set for mine. I'm having them fitted on Tuesday.
Any gotchas with the installation? It's coming off H&R coil-overs so I'm hoping it will be straightforward for the mechanic.

Re: Water in Footwell

I had the exact same problem. AC drain blockage. It's worse on rainy days because of the increased moisture levels - which makes one think it's a leak. Run the car on cold, fast AC with the carpet peeled back, you should see it overflowing from the grommet, at a surprising rate! I had to strip every...

Re: Coilover swap-out, is it worth it?

I would love to use the ride height adjustable suspension used on the A8s, though I doubt it's compatible.

Re: Bizarre Shriek

Both the gearbox and the turbos have a 12 month warranty.

Coilover swap-out, is it worth it?

Now it's back on the road and having decided to keep it indefinitely, I have some improvements to make in the coming months... The suspension; I had been driving my 944 turbo in the time while the Audi was incapacitated and I have to say I have grown to like it even more. For a 28 year old car the s...

Re: Bizarre Shriek

The car is back and running correctly. Turbo refurb; two stock replacement cores £660: Turbo Force, Preston Gearbox refurb; £2600 : Automatic Transmissions, Preston Cam belt kit, water pump etc, turbo remove/replace (inc oil and filter change, due to warranty requirements); ~£500: Automatic Transmis...

Re: Bizarre Shriek

83K. I bought at 55K, so I assume they are original. No signs at all until the squealing. I have always serviced it regularly. Oil changes every in-between every service too. I always let it warm up, and give it chance to cool if I have been thrashing it. However, it had a leaky intercooler when I b...

Re: Bizarre Shriek

Apparently, the filters that came out looked standard. I'm not sure if non-standard ones look the same.
As for the Loba rebuild, does anyone know the approximate cost and time scale of getting that done? Their website is under maintenance until Jan it seems.

Re: Bizarre Shriek

Hmm. That sounds costly. I spoke to a gearbox place today who have done many RS6s, they can do a box refurb for £2600 all in. That involves taking out the turbos anyhow so the labour is already covered. I can get a pair of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A6-C5-RS6-Quattro-331KW-450PS-/361118792...

Re: Bizarre Shriek

I have had it looked at. Blown turbo. Now I need to work out my options: Replace one or both of the turbos with stock parts. Replace both turbos with fancier ones. Choose an option from above and do a prophylactic gearbox swap, whilst I'm at it, and keep forever because of the huge cost involv...

Re: Bizarre Shriek

Thanks for the response.
It's noticeably slower in boost. But it was normal in the 40 or so miles before the incident.
It is stage II and I sourced standard filters for it. I hope it hasn't gone and inhaled them....

Bizarre Shriek

An unfortunate squeal developed this evening. It is the first time I've heard anything like it outside the sooty and sweep show. I'm hoping that someone may know what it is and whether it is potentially destructive to drive 20 miles to my usual mechanic. It only comes on when on boost. Never below 2...
