Bear in mind the DRC clunk improves after driving the car for 10-15 minutes as the system warms up - try it again in the morning when cold and see if its OK.

The trouble with the rejection is that I suspect you may be correct that its a credit rather than refund. It's unlikely another RS4 is going to crop up at the same dealer and i'm not sure there's another Audi I would want.
Repair at my local dealer is the best outcome and most reasonable IMO.
