Had an S3, B5 S4 Avant and B6 S4 auto. Personally I wasn't a big fan of the auto box other than in traffic (or snow). I alway had it in +- mode as that way you can hold the revs until red line and the box doesn't just change on its own. Feels much more like a manual too. This is childish I know but...

I know that the fuel consumption is going to probably be the least attractive thing about the car!

Suppose the saving on the cambelt will help offset the cost of the fuel ha ha - thanks for clearing that up mate
