Yes it may get a 'ram air' effect but even if it was perfect you gain not very much if anything at all.

Re: Carbon intake Vs standard airbox power.

Its not hypothetical - it's well established facts. The problem is that you are equating "force" with "pressure" and they are fundamentally different things. So for example putting your arm in a fast moving stream of air (say 100mph) has the effect of you experiencing a lot of force on your arm from...

Re: Carbon intake Vs standard airbox power.

Just thought of another way to explain. You travel in your car at say 70mph window shut and air con on, you breath normally because nothing is forcing air in to your lungs but you feel the chill as you breath. now open the window stick a funnel in your gob and stick you head out the window...... yo...

Re: Carbon intake Vs standard airbox power.

This is a good build right-up on a Ram Air setup on a V8 car, but just have a hunt around on the net will confirm the advantages of having a Ram Air system and hence why most car makers have the system fitted to there cars. http://planetsoarer.com/BFI3/bfi3.htm That looks like a CAF to me (and a pr...

Re: Carbon intake Vs standard airbox power.

<sigh> This one never goes away. Ram air effect does exist however the effect for a road car is insignificant. At speeds under 300mph (ish) air simply doesn't compress very easily. If you put a funnel in an airflow not all the air that enters the cone of the funnel will exit via the spout. All that ...

Re: Question

Stats I found showed RS4 braking from 100kph 35.5m vs rx8 36. From what I remember driving them I did think they had good brakes. Peak lateral g .91 for the rs4 and .88 for the rx8. But it depends what you mean by "handle better". The rs4 will have a lot of corner traction but the Rx8 will be potent...

Re: Tracker and the RS6

On the "anyone over 30 clause" - worth checking the excess. I have had some policy quotations where this has been available but the excess jumps astronomically if invoked.
Something like 10% the insured value of the car.

Re: So after 4 months

Straight line at speed then fwd doesn't have any disadvantages and a lot less losses. The rs4 isn't about going fast in a straight line. It's as above - it has a broad set of abilities. It really is a car to do everything. Finally - to pull a car length during say 50-100 is actually bloody hard. Loo...

Re: Added a B7 to the stable

Could always try some maf cleaner. Might just be dirty. Torx head pretty standard so should be in any hardware store.

Re: top gear!!!

So it's scripted... But so are some of the best comedy shows.
I view it simply as a sit com that happens to have cars in. The places they do go are astounding - in many places you couldn't imagine that those places look the way they do.

Manifold flaps don't trip the esp light. Maf sensor likely culprit.
Open bonnet, unclip mad wiring, remove two screws, remove maf

Re: Added a B7 to the stable

the slow cranking is probably down to the battery. I'd wage that the higher compression ratio of the B7 gives the starter (and therefore the battery) a much harder time in cold weather. Most batteries when brand spanking new and fully charged only put out 40% of their capacity when at 0c so -10 must...

Re: top gear!!!

The esprit is a great car to drive considering the age. Not the fastest but such fun.
For may to catch that tank slapper was pretty impressive - they are not forgiving at all.
just a crying shame the gearbox is such a weak spot.
