yeah i've seen that one - think the S4 is totally standard. Stage 1 decatted S4 B5 should be an equal......i think....i've decided on an S4 now anyway......for more reasons than just outright straight line performance.

Torque wont make much difference once the M3 hits its power band and they'll rev all day at 8000rpm no probs, I look forward to the scooby losing - used to like em in the mid to late 90s but since then they've turned into.......well you guys know the rest

Sorry mate but there is no way your standard 265bhp S4 beat a 343bhp E46 M3 in in Cab format the M3 would sonly be about 25kg heavier than an S4 - cab adds 100kg onto M3 Coupe weight.... a 286bhp E36 M3 3.0 is a little different to an E46 343bhp........but I see what you're saying...the proof is in the pudding...I'll have to have a drive/ be driven in one.....anyone live near me?? - I'm in Guildford

My original question was if I buy an S4 and take it to MRC for stage one then gut the cats - will it keep up with an E46 M3 once rolling....... Exactly - torque is irrelevant if the correct revs are dialed in - sure torque helps out of corners and gives you more driveablility but my old Integra R had bugger all torque yet was pretty quick in a line once in the vtec zone. I dont see how an S4 with 4wd powertrain losses would live with an M3...

So in a straight line if I gut the precats and pay a visit to MRC then i'll be sorted. so will that produce around 320-330 bhp??
