I had exactly the same problem and it is easy to fix and costs nothing !! The last poster is spot on, its just a dry joint on the small blackbox attached to the CD changer cradle in the passenger side cubby hole in your boot. You can confirm this by wiggling the connector going in and as if by magic...

Thanks to S2tuner & UKS4APR1 both of you were spot on, changed the little white plastic switch under the clutch pedal ( 10min Job) and all is as it should be, i can actually change gear without it sounding like i'm learning to drive again. On a B5 RS4 engine the revs inbetween gear changes are very slow to drop making smooth gear changes near on impossible. It revs statically fine its only really noticable inbetween changes and gets worse the more enthusiastically you drive as you tend to rev higher inbetween changes. Any advice on ho...
