Obviously, do this in a well ventilated area. :|

Re: Rattle on Start

Yes. You must. Run the engine regularly and get it up to full operating temperature. Also, you should rotate the wheels if you can. If not then over-inflate or use tyre cushions.

Re: Rattle on Start

I wouldn't recommend doing that on an RS6 unless you pull fuse 29 first otherwise you'll send lots of fuel into the cylinders. Also, it's likely the car will start after a couple of seconds.

Yeah, 10 seconds max.

Re: Rattle on Start

You can hear it when the engine becomes pressurised / lubed. Takes about 6 or 7 seconds in my case. Noise level goes down, starter turns slightly more freely. It's a subtle difference, but detectable.

Re: Rattle on Start

That's not a bad idea. I should probably do the same.

Do you leave it a long time between using it??
Mine can sound quite tappety if I've left it for a few weeks. This can last for a couple of minutes. It takes a while for the tappets to fully pressurise when they are completely drained.

Re: Rattle on Start

Probably a hydraulic tappet that's a bit tired. See what happens after your oil change. Presumably you're using the correct 5W40 505.01 stuff?

Re: Search funtion problem

Cool. That also appears to have fixed a bug I was about to bitch about where the search doesn't complete and displays a blank page if you search for a term + author.
