RE: Matt Black B5

Saw a matt black Aston V8 Vantage going down the A4 the other day.

. The fact of the matter is that these cars are basically supercars and have the assosciated running costs too. But I can't square a Supercar with cams that wear out. I've had 600 hp Skylines, a 400hp EVO and while they needed (more) regular servicing and some mechanical sympathy, they were basical...

Oh, misunderstanding... I thought you meant 964 RS (doh!) Yes, I've ummed and erred about the RS4. I really like them as a concept–a car that does everything and looks fantastic–but everytime I've been in one, it hasn't grabbed me by the throat like it does for many people here. I have the feeli...

I tell you what... I really would if I thought I could afford one. When I had them before, they were deeply disliked and cheap but now they're deeply desired and expensive, unfortunately. Why?

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Some good news about cam

A company like Audi should still be able to make an engine that doesn't wear out–with or without child seats, ring stickers, re-maps etc. The best car I ever owned was a 964RS for one simple reason: you could cane it round any track, an airfield or the 'ring and when you finished you just drove it...

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Some good news about camshaft we

I think you're letting Audi off the hook. If low-rent manufacturers like Chevy, Mitsubishi and Nissan can make engines and cams that last, then an upmarket brand like Audi should do it too. It might be that they've duped people into thinking that they can run their cars on 10K (nevermind 20K) servic...

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Some good news about camshaft we

One other thing worth noting... If you run either a Skyline, EVO or any kind of tuned American muscle, you'll be changing oil every 5,000 miles or less. American muscle car owners habitually change their oil almost every month. Maybe Audi is deluding everyone with a promise that they can run a 140 b...

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Some good news about camshaft we

I can't believe that you all accept this as readily as you do. Even GM can make high horsepower engines that last for several hundred thousand miles without the camshafts wearing out–and have been doing so for fifty years. Nissan Skylines will run 600+ HP on standard cams. Ever hear of Porsche cam...

Very little experience with RS4's in detail, sorry, but I've had other cars much faster/ scarier than these. My view is that if these cars are so temperamental that you have to bring a specialist along with you in case there's some terminal engine noise, then maybe they're best avoided full-stop. Re...

I gave the whole car a cursory look, since I tend to pay more attention to who I'm buying off, and I liked this guy. But, you should see for yourself. There have been a number of cars at this kind of money / mileage recently, and they seem to come in bunches, so maybe just wait a while if you're not...

Where's the noisey engine idea come from? I rode in it and the engine sounded fine. The question with the paint is whether you're bothered about it having been painted per se–because it implies it's been damaged–or whether you're concerned about the quality of the paint. I thought it looked fine.

I think you'll fine the full run down on this car here: http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=76130&sid=10268cc7ddb4c32e51d98f703432d15a For what it's worth, I saw the car and liked it, especially because the bloke selling it seemed very genuine. I didn't buy because it was t...

RE: Re: An even cheaper sub 70k miler....

Plus, for a car that's this old, out of warranty and capable of giving some nasty bills, buying a low-price one is as much as an insurance policy against further financial disasters as buying an expensive one. It's not as if the interiors shred themselves after 50K miles after all.

Re: An even cheaper sub 70k miler....

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/953502.htm After last week's Noggy for (69k - £14975) this one has now cropped up for £1000 less. As with the Noggy you do need to see it to firmly value it so don't despair if you have a mint 69k miler necessarily but I don't recall cars at this mileage being under...
