I'm no expert but i believe the precats are 400 cell and the main cats 200 cell. The main advantage of dropping the precats is they are the most restrictive bit of the exhaust system.

what part number are they? Where are you based?

you can get a rebuild kit from audi which sorts it out. I think the part is: 8L0 998 711 or its a new motor (about £70 from euro car parts)

I went to look at it and while im no expert it does seem to need a fair bit. its still on the original dv's, the maf needs replacing, I think the thermostat is shot and the dis has loads of lines missing.
