'New' (old) member in Switzerland

Hi all, Can't really claim to be a new member, as I was on here a bit back in 2005/2006... I had a B5 S4 at the time, and found the forum a great source of info. But due to several factors (new job, new house, new kid, etc), I unfortunately had to sell that car in 2007... Anyway, after a few years w...

Drive train stabilizer - where to buy in UK / Europe ?

Previously mentioned in this thread. Seems there's 2 companies that make them, both in the US : AWE Autospeed I want to buy one of these, but also want to avoid paying 'wire transfer fees' (they won't accept credit cards for international orders), and don't want to pay silly courier charges (they ca...

RE: Re: RE: snow tyres

I put Yokohama AVS Winter tyres on mine a couple of weeks ago, luckily, and have had the opportunity to test them out the last few days with all the snow here (plenty of non-ESP sideways action). They are 225/45/17s, and cost me CHF 990.00 for 4 fitted and balanced. (approx 440 GBP). Should be obtai...

http://www.autospeedperformance.com/ can sell you a TRANSMISSION STABILIZER BAR for $279 +delivery this will fix the kangaroo first gear problem. Thanks ! That looks like a handy thing. (Which I didn't know about.) Might hunt around to see if a more 'local' equivalent exists, otherwise will serious...

umm you might find the jerky off throttle to be a 'feature', the drive train moving due to the change in torque but I could be wrong... I have the same problem (very slight 'jerkiness', for want of a better term) in my 01' avant s4, and it certainly seems to be more of a drivetrain problem than thr...

I'll be commenting after the weekend... I'm expecting having done lots of laps on GT4, that I'll hopefully know which way the corners are going to go...but not much more than that. (have also watched countless videos of various cars going round the ring.) going to get a couple of passenger laps wit...

RE: Gap between outside of brake caliper and wheel spokes

Hmm, okay. Thanks. It just seems to me that a 5mm gap isn't much if the wheel or bolts flex a tiny bit...or a bit of gravel or something gets in between them. The 17s that were on the car when I bought it have at least a 10mm gap, probably more like 12. But if 3mm works okay, I'll go for 5mm...

Gap between outside of brake caliper and wheel spokes

Bit of a noob question: generally speaking, by how much should a wheel clear the outside of the caliper, minimum ? (ie, not in the diameter direction, but laterally, in the direction of the spokes of the wheel...). I have kept the aftermarket 18" wheels off my old a4, which will go on the 'new' s4, ...

Standard is fine. If you don't do more than 2 laps consecutively your brakes should be okay, but they are the first things I would suggest upgrading, even if its just pads. Ideally rotors and pads. If you have the budget, calipers too, but I believe this is less important...

Clarification : Got the clip - it's actually plastic, not metal. According to the stores bloke at the local Audi place, it was changed from metal to plastic, not the other way around.
