I didn't use any tyre shine myself - but the previous owner did I believe as did the people that sold it to me. I would recommend not using at all - tyres look ok with a good scrub and a wipe over with a chamois (shammy - cant spell!) leather.

Mitchelin's were £220 each from costco - luckily had 20% at the time off if you bought 4 so approx £760 all in - they also fill the tyres with nitrogen instead of air which does make a difference. Yes - I know what you mean -but you'll find that most of the 'special tools' are fairly standard tools that you will either have or can buy generic versions from the likes of laser or even Halfrauds. Eg brake caliper rewind tool, oil filter removal tool etc so don't be too put off by those.
