cig lighter/usb port....
Hi all,
Don't know why but I don't have a cigarette lighter at the front of the car.
I don't smoke but really need a charger for the phone.
Can I retrofit one in or maybe fit a USB port?
Any ideas?
Cheers

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
I though so as well until I pressed the carbon trimming right under the AC panel and the ashtray with cigarette lighter has popped out...
Why wouldn't they put one in yur car?

Non smoking is Option code 9JA or 9JE - check your option codes at the front of the service book.
Very easy to fit one if it's not there - power and earth available behing the panel below the steering wheel.

If not modding then the Belkin F8Z445 Micro Auto Charger (http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage. ... _Id=489767) is not bad. I have one sitting here. Might not work with iSheep 4's and higher though.

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
Something like that would be nice!
But gotta fit the cig lighter first.
Under my steering wheel the previous owner had an in-car phone charger (the type that plugs into the cig lighter) wired up. Live and earth soldered onto the charger itself with a fuse in the middle. It was useless to me so I replaced it with a normal USB charger, soldered the wires. It works spot on. At the same time i connected an aux cable to the JVC headunit.
Problem is, the interior light fuse (no.14 iirc) has blown 3 times since and i lose my elec windows too!!
Not sure what it could be (as there was already a charger there and i just changed it to a different one) but i'm going to remove the charger tomorrow and check the back of the headunit to make sure nothing is loose.
Strange one
Anyone had this before?

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
Rewire it to terminal 75X under the steering wheel. That way you will get all the juice you need and it will go off with the ignition. An inline fuse it still a good idea.

Dave, I can't find any reference for those options for the RS6.Daveperc wrote:Non smoking is Option code 9JA or 9JE - check your option codes at the front of the service book.

There is only one part number for the ashtray and they call come with cigar lighter.
Sid, can you post a photo?
Have you got a cigar lighter in the back of the center console for the passengers?

Hi Shop
TBH I didn't think there was a non-smoking option on the RS6 - but Amanda made a statement that there was - and if there was, then those would have been the codes!!
So, I think you are right that you "can't find any reference to those codes for the RS6"!!

Amanda, you are leading us astray with your erroneous assertions!

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
Erm, as an engineer, I'm pretty sure that smoking is a sign of "hot", not "cool"!!
Reminds me of the old line of "Do you smoke after sex??"... "Don't know, never looked!"
And Amanda - your old A6 may have had a non-smoking option - after all the existence of the codes shows that SOME models had the option. The question is whether it was an option on the RS6, and so far we can't find one!!
