So its been to Audi
So its been to Audi
Hi All , so I took the car to southend Audi today and the knocking could be
Worn top bushes x 2 each side , has anyone powerflexed these ?
3 shocks are slightly leaking so may as well change all 4 .
Rear pads on 75% worn Rear discs need changing
Front Discs need changing
Rear brake hoses corroded
So basically I didn't get a answer as to what the knocking is so im going to poly bush the top bushes
Lower Arm bushes
Diff mount
Is there any where to get decent shocks from as im guessing from Audi its going to sting ? They said they will email over all the prices with labour.

Re: So its been to Audi
I don't think there is a great choice with shocks, you either get standard ones for full price (or buy second hand, not recommended as you'll probably end up changing them again sometime soon), unless you know someone selling them cheaper but I don't recall seeing any new ones going cheap anywhere, or you just bin the DRC and fit coilovers for £1.5 - 2k.
Re: So its been to Audi
Wow that's going to be a hefty one, that saving on the cheaper tax is going to come in handy
1, When you get your quote from Audi, type in the part numbers over the Internet see what prices come up
2, check out the part numbers on Flea bay including Europe in your search, you will be surprised how much you can save
I do this every other week for my DRC system (Flea bay) as mine is SS+ so the parts are more difficult to find
I have 1 brand new shock and a new accumulator value so far and will keep going till I have the set up
Good luck

But a good one is sweet as a nut
Re: So its been to Audi
Yes they are getting old so some things will start to go and cost a fortune to fix, but I don't think that is the case here. Brake pads and discs are consumable items that have cost a lot since day one. And DRC shocks needing to be changed could have happened (and did.. a lot) on new cars too, albeit you could have been covered under warranty / goodwill, but fact is this has been an issue since that extended DRC warranty expired.RS6chris! wrote:That's the trouble with these B7,s now....getting old and very expensive!!
Good luck.
And both of these are things most prospective buyers are aware of and check before buying, like the oil cooler and a carbon clean (I don't agree with this last one because if the carbon clean is more than 6 months old then the car is likely to be no better off than a car that's never had a clean).

Re: So its been to Audi
Mine is a nice straight car , but as said above nearly 9 years old . they don't last forever .
Its had the oil pipes done under warranty , both back boxes done under warranty , coil packs done .
So my Discs all have a slight lip, but this isn't what I went there for .
Ill concentrate on the front end first to stop the knocking .
About 6 years ago I placed my S3 into Audi and it came back with a list double the length of the one I got today ,I think there just over fussy
How much are the standard shocks as ive not had the email ,I fitted coilovers to my old car and tbh I hated it,for road use there not the best .

Re: So its been to Audi
I think each shock is about £200 just for parts.
Re: So its been to Audi
I thought shocks and other DRC components were the same for SS ans SS+ cars and only the springs and rear ARB differed?R1RS4 wrote:

So around the £800 mark
Bushes are around £200
Rear pads are £40
Then next ill do the rear brake hoses although when I got home I looked and its just minor surface rust. I wont be using any 2nd hard parts as mike said its just not worth it .
Re: So its been to Audi
I asked the parts guy at Audi and he said there different on the SS+ I have my shock Part numbers, I will dig them out and post, then we could compareMikeFish wrote:I thought shocks and other DRC components were the same for SS ans SS+ cars and only the springs and rear ARB differed?R1RS4 wrote:

I didn't have the rear right done so I don't have a part number for that one but it looks like there are minor differences (just the last letter in fact). Or are these parts the same and the last letter signifies an updated part?
