Sump plug and washer issues

Post by kerraddoo01 » Fri Aug 01, 2025 3:43 pm

Just wondering if anyone has experienced issues with leaking sump plug and washer following oil change. Recently had minor service involving an oil change which resulted in an oil leak. Genuine Audi parts used. It has taken 3 attempts to put right. The washer seals but then once the oil gets hot it starts dripping. Garage tried 2 more to same result. Resolved by sourcing an Aston Martin plug and washer. Hopefully. Something to note for next time.

Hi,
I had a similar problem.
After several attempts with alternative sump plugs and copper washers I finally fixed it by using a PTFE plastic washer of the correct size.
It is softer than copper but is temperature stable.
I could not see any evidence of damage to the sump threads or surrounds, but there must be some distortion from over tightening in the past.
