Engine ECU Software Recall - 2406

Post by feeltheburn » Tue Jul 22, 2025 6:40 pm

Recently had my car in for Service, MOT & spark plug change and was informed there was a software recall for the engine ECU. No details were available as to what the software update ‘fixes’ (I suspect it is emissions related). I have maintained an Audi warranty since the manufactures one expired and had little choice but to have the update applied if I still wanted to have my warranty intact. My car is pre-fl- 2014 - 26,000 miles.

Maybe someone here is more aware of the recall and what it ‘fixes’?

I feared that there was something strange with the update as I was experiencing hotter than normal oil temperatures (102degc rather than normal rock solid 96degc - in everyday driving). I then learned from dealer that the software had not been applied during the service and that I needed to take the car back to have it done. So it seems that changing the spark plugs had something to do with the increased temperatures as after a couple of trips and prior to taking the car back for the ecu update the car had settled back to 96degc as normal. Struggle to see that it was spark plug related but in anycase the car seems to have sorted things out for itself.

Post engine ECU update I haven’t noticed anything different with the engine performance. I don’t drive the car that much so only time will tell if there is any change in performance or an increased thirst!

About to have my C7P in for inspection service and was told there was this update to do. I was asked if I wanted it as it would potentially mess up a remap. Mines never been remapped though but I’m sceptical about why needs doing so will probably not get it done right now - usually these sneaky engine updates are for emissions (like you’ve said) and have a negative impact on power/consumption.

I’m too sceptical to trust that it’s something I really need doing on a 8 year old car.

Which exact month is your car production?

Car manufacture date is 06/14.

As I said I only allowed the update so that I could keep my Audi warranty intact - I am not a fan of updating electronics unless it is completely necessary or there is a new feature that I want.
