In that case, the 24-month Audi warranty should also cover labour, even if you fitted it yourself.

Hey guys,

Just found this after talking to another member, currently working on a friend's C5 and I'm trying to remove the manifold, everything that I can find is removed but it won't budge.

Can anyone enlighten me on the process to remove the inlet without dropping the engine?
Can't figure out for the life of me what needs to happen!

Hi Tom

You most certainly do not need to drop the engine :-)
There are 16 bolts and 4 nuts which hold the manifold in place. If you have removed all of these, the water pipes and the vacuum pipe, the 2 boost return pipes (audi calls them pressure pipes) then all it will stuck on is the 2 dowels. You need to lever the intake manifold away from those dowels before you can lift it out. As I told Bilko recently, a bit of brute force and ignorance is needed here :audibash:

Remember, while you are in there it's a good time to change all gaskets, seals, some pipes, IAT Sensor, PCV valve and the electric pump is a must

I'm happy to help, just shout here if youre still stuck.

Regards
Craig

As above brute force. You need to lever the inlet tracts (Red)back about 5mm to get it off the dowels also the pipe mount (Blue) will bend back aswell.I think that pipe is the water pipe that links both heads and ends up at top hose. You need to undo and lever up both air pipes (Green) these are a PITA getting back in. Took me 4.5 hours to remove with lots of swearing and messaging TOPMAN (thanks for your help Craig)

You guys are absolute legends!

I'll be starting this as I go and since I've made an appearance I shall make a point of being more active.

The mercs are gone (it's been a while since an RS Audi) so my signature is very outdated but I shall sort all that out once this RS6 is off the ramp!
Been a slog.

-Fuel filter (original) changed
-Oil and Filter
-Plugs
-PS Pump
-Headlight restoration & new bulbs
-Gearbox service, filter etc.
-vacuum lines all replaced

Just this vacuum leak and loss of brakes to sort, looks to be the brake booster line running from bulkhead to under the inlet (hence removing the manifold)

Thanks for the help, I genuinely miss the forums.. genuine help, not like Facebook where it's just abuse for asking a question.

Anyways I'll update with progress and sorry for the thread hi-jack I'll make a return post since I'm now back to RS ownership 😉

Probably is the SJP as a common fault. It is still available from TPS / Audi for about £45. I changed mine while the mainfold was off even though the original 2003 one was fine.

Anyone got a part number handy for the SJP? I'm going to put it in the FAQ. And probably get one as a spare while they are still available.
