Belated Happy Easter Steve

I'd say that's a good result all things considered. Plenty of life left in the old girl!

You know that once your car fails you can't drive it, except to / from repair or MOT station?

/Correction: only if it has any dangerous faults.

//although ANPR will probably show your car in a failed state and you might have to justify your position to a cop if stopped.

Interesting article here:
However, following the computerisation of the MOT test a "Fail" result will be recorded on the online DVLA database together with the "Pass" test result, and therefore a search on the DVLA data base will show both a pass and a fail result.

The ANPR system operated by the police is likely to draw the Police Officer’s attention to the MOT history and if checked the officer would see a "Fail". The Police Officer is almost certain to pull the vehicle over and check whether any repairs have been undertaken. If the repairs have not been completed the car is therefore not roadworthy and your customer is likely to be prosecuted.

Hi Ben
I don’t think anything dangerous was flagged up.
At least the garage didn’t say I couldn’t drive the car.

As I see it. The car failed on a non working fog light bulb.
The front pads wearing thin was a advisory.
If I get chance I will pull the bulb and fit a new one.

Ps. What a faff to replace a light bulb on a saloon. The whole boot lid trim has to be removed.

Pps just checked the gov site for mot.
Still shows 18/04/2024 as the out of mot date.

Driving it home is on the list as well.

Failed fog light bulb is far less serious than a failed indicator for example. Fog light you might not even use.

Check to see if there is one on anyway as I think it looks like there should be two on these cars and I'm pretty certain I had it queried once then they realised it was actually correct to have one.

The rules changed so a lot of older cars had twin fogs and twin reversing lights. Then it became one fog and one reversing light from what I remember.

Hi suz.
When I first bought the car in 2012. I checked everything was working.
Noticed only one rear fog light was working. So I booked it into a garage to get it fixed.
Boy did I feel like a right dipstick when they told me the nearside fog light was a dummy.

I fitted the second fog light on mine as everything was there on the other side except the bulb holder, bulb and (oddly) reflective surface on the reflector.
Presumably Audi found it too difficult to customise the wiring loom for the UK but had no problem omitting a quick spray of "chrome" paint!
I fixed the last one with reflective adhesive tape as it was somewhat dimmer without it.

I don't think I've ever had to use foglights. IMO they shouldn't exist.

I am with you Ben. I don’t think I have ever used the fog lights.
Still they are there so might as well have them working.

I was hoping it was a fuse ? No such luck so I will have to remove the trim to gain access to the bulb.

Finally found the problem. 4 wires cut through due to opening and closing the boot over the years.

Thankfully job done.

Good find. Can be a real pain in the ass trying to find broken wires.

Knowing what you’re like with your car Steve you’re probably contemplating rewiring the whole car now. 🤣
