Line from oil Filter to oil cooler (I think)
Line from oil Filter to oil cooler (I think)
Gents looking for some help.
I am not mechanical therefore forgive me if my terminology is wrong. I was checking the car over and noticed the oil line from the filter to the oil cooler. (I am guessing). Its a small cooler below the radiator and line goes into the drivers side. Looks to be in very poor condition at what I think is a crimped connector that takes the hard pipe from the filter to a braided line that connects to the cooler.
I have had a look and think the part is 4B3317816C ? and on the back of not being able to get filters anymore i don't expect this to be available. Like I said not mechanically minded band can feel the braiding at the top of the line at the outside edge of the crimp.
Any advice much appreciated / recommendations on who could replace this don't mind travelling (Up in Scotland). Was thinking of putting some metal set on the top and round the crimp in the short term to improve its strength until i find someone to replace it. Currently no sign of leaks.
Thanks for any advice guys as a bit out of my depth with this one. Steven

Re: Line from Filter to oil cooler (I think)
Guys just realised if its coming from the engine oil filter it must be engine oil. Did say I am not mechanical

Re: Line from oil Filter to oil cooler (I think)
Ben appreciate the quick feedback. Really worried about this.
I take it one of the 45deg fittings attaches to the oil filter and with this set up you no longer have the section of hard pipe?
Do you know if any companies will make this and replace it (Unit 20?)
Do you think putting some metal set on in the short term to the crimp is a bad idea?
Thanks again Steven

I was really surprised as she has only done 41k miles and a garage queen but suppose it must just be the age rather than time on the road
Re: Line from oil Filter to oil cooler (I think)
Hard to say without seeing some photos. Can you post some? Best thing is to replace the oil lines completely. Can't hurt to ask Unit20. See what they say. Pretty sure any hydraulics company could make up some decent lines for you. You'll probably be able to find one locally.

Now I think about it, didn't RScarparts.de start selling a new replacement pipe?

Re: Line from oil Filter to oil cooler (I think)
Ben i agree that the line needs replaced. Thanks for the link to rs carparts gives me 2 options to get a new line and fit get it fitted at an oil change.
I don't really know what to say. Without the forum and people like yourself I would have thrown the towel in as its getting silly with Audi stopping so many consumable parts.
Final question and will leave you in peace!!
For me to post pictures do I need to set up a flickr account ? I tried a while ago to upload from my computer but no joy. (I did read the guide on here but did not make sense to me)
Thanks again for the help and have a good weekend.... i will now pick myself off the ceiling. Steven

Re: Line from oil Filter to oil cooler (I think)
There’s a guy on EBay selling three of the RS Carparts cooler lines brand new and he has some old ones and the cooler aswell although he says that needs a repair, standard.
Re: Line from oil Filter to oil cooler (I think)
Well gents thanks for helping out. I got myself on Ebay and bought the RS Carparts cooler lines. Been shipped. Will get myself ready to change the line at the upcoming oil change whilst referencing the guide on trying to get the nut off the cooler. Can you split the nut and remove from behind the bumper or is a must to remove the bumper for this task.
Re: Line from oil Filter to oil cooler (I think)
It's easy to remove the bumper. You're just making things unnecessarily difficult if you try without. Have a look at my timing belt DIY for bumber removal instructions.

Bumper off as shopp says.cover99 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 9:10 pmWell gents thanks for helping out. I got myself on Ebay and bought the RS Carparts cooler lines. Been shipped. re. oil cooler union - I know some people have been lucky, but personally I'd ONLY remove the nut by cutting very carefully with a dremel.
Last thing you want to do is knacker the cooler as you remove the line and the DIY that "Classik" worked out with a banjo & extension replaces the hard line you've just ordered entirely.
