Cel light on.

Post by Robbie b » Fri Mar 31, 2023 9:31 pm

So just got my car today and already a few issues but just now on a drive home the cel light came on and I've noticed it's a put hesitant low down splutters even although minor to pick up,yet it was pulling fiercely beforehand.when I stopped I gave it a tiny rev and could hear what I thought was a blow blowing sound from front left.could this be a cooler thing?I know nothing about these cars and my head is mashed already with it.were should I start to look first?any help appreciated.
Regards
Rob

Welcome to RS6 ownership. You’re going to need to get a Vagcom. Essential tool for this car.

If you can hear air escaping, could be a boost leak. Intercooler hose possibly.

Explore in the daylight.

Did you buy from a dealer?

Thanks man.although it hasn't been a great start.what a car!!yes I have done a bit of research on the Vagcom stuff.i will get one ASAP.i made a very impulsive decision when I seen it for sale and traded my gc8 wrx in off it.i new the seller who is a dealer and decided to take the plunge.he had assured me the box and belts were done only recently enough but had no proof of this but I took his word for it.car does drive really well so hoping this isn't a big thing.

If you bought from a dealer then they should be sorting it out for you.

Might be something minor but it’s not ideal that the car goes wrong the minute you drive it away.

I see you posted some topics I’m the Electrical section. You’d probably get more joy posting in this forum.

Yes. Because metered air will be escaping causing the mixture to be too rich.

Warranty or not, Sales of Goods act means the car must be fit for purpose. Know your rights. Whether the dealer cares about your rights is a different matter.

Welcome mate,
They are great cars. If you can swing a spanner and use a computer, you will be fine. As Shop said get Vag-Com, it's a must have. Had mine for 8 years and still learning about it. The guys on here are the best and have heaps of knowledge on these cars. As Shop suggested you may have a boost leak. Check the intercooler hoses. One may have popped off. To check the bottom hoses put the car on ramps and remove the under tray. You than have good access to the bottom hoses. Top ones you can see from looking down the left front and right front of the engine.

Hi.thanks mate.yes I already in a love hate relationship with it but I will persevere.i went out on a limb financially to get it unknown to the missus and wasn't expecting anything so soon but you live and learn.not the wisest thing to do with one of these but when I drove it I had to have it.!loved it straight away.luckily it's not my daily and I can get to the jobs when I've time.thanks for the advice, you and Shop.feeling encouraged.it happened just merging onto motorway under full throttle then a sudden drop in power and light on immediately.im hoping its only a boost pipe.
As regards the Vagcom is it the 199 dollar one that will suit my needs.?I am not to computer savvy but I'll learn it

From that description it does sound like a boost leak. Maybe the hose popped off the intercooler when boost was highest.

Get a Vagcom from ilexa.co.uk or gendan.co.uk.

Sounds like he knew the car had issues. The first words out of his mouth when you call will confirm that, I suspect. Or maybe he'll say to bring it back and he'll sort it.

Yes. It'll love you, but BDSM is its bag.

Ah right. Then you might be better off looking for a VCDS supplier in Ireland. Is there customs and duty to pay for goods coming from the UK? Who even knows anymore?

And it'll be the EU equivalent of the sales of goods act (possibly Directive (EU) 2019/771) but it's more or less the same or stronger than the UK equivalent.
