Hi all,

Next month will be 12 months ownership. The car was serviced when I bought it and I'll have done 4k in a year. I normally service my cars every 7k but wondering if I should have it serviced regardless next month?

Also, I've previously used Unit 20 which I was very happy with but PSI Tuning is 5 miles up the road - has anyone used them before and would they be ok for a service if I need one?

They're my nearest as well so I tend to use them because going anywhere else is way less convenient so I put up with their occasional foibles. I have used them since I got my car in 2015 and they've worked on other cars I've had. I haven't noticed standard of actual work being off though. Just their communication skills and the odd estimation failure. They generally lend me a car or do a drop off and return so it's not inconvenient as mine isn't a daily now.

There's also TQC in Fenton that a few have used on here as well. They are well regarded. I hate Fenton so I haven't tried them.

Matty. Mine is my daily drive. So I have mine serviced annually. Typically I do 7-8 K miles per year.

If I was only doing 4k miles per year I reckon I would extend my service intervals.
But I suppose that’s a personal choice.

If you have a local garage that provides a good service.
And it is recommended by a member who uses them. I think I would give them a try.
Again this is personal choice.

Thanks for the replies, I might leave the service til early next year as the oil still looks clean.

Not heard of TQC, will have a look at them.

I wouldn't put off the service. The oil change is only one part of it. There's all the rest: cabin filter, air filter checks, brake fluid check, brake checks. I hardly use mine but it's always taken in for a service annually to be looked over. These cars are getting old now so you have to keep on top of things.

What do you pay for a service? £300?

Cannot help you there Matty. As I have always had extra work done to coincide with the service.

£300 odd usually. Depends what else is needed. Cam belt/waterpump every 4 years is probably the most expensive service item that is needed. Brakes too. The price of front discs and pads is daft. Gearbox needs oil and filter change every few years as well. Also the seals can leak so you need to keep checking on those.

Had a trip out to Unit 20 last week for 10k service, cambelt kit fitted & MOT. £2.3k plus change.....
Did include two tyres for the MOT though.
If you've not got the time / skillset / facilities then gotta bite the bullet and get a pro on the job. Great service as always though, courtesy car made available so overall not TOO bad.

Yeah, some of the fiddly little essentials to do the job properly have gone up in price by quite a margin since my last cambelt service

Grizz was telling me some real horror stories mainly concerning parts for the B7 RS4's, washers and seals that were pennies not too long back are now coming in at £90 plus. Scary.

When I was at unit 20 not so long ago (April) for full service cambelt change and door locks replaced.
Grizz mentioned genuine oil filters for our cars are becoming scarce.
So he bought as many as he could get his hands on.

I've never put a genuine oil filter in mine. I do however always fit Bosch ones to the RS.
On my boat, there's a specific Fram one I use - I'd never ever user a mercury marine one.

Yeah, used loads of them and they've been fine too, as you'd expect. I just like the bosch ones on the RS because they're black. Not that they are particularly visible. But I know it's there.
