Time for something new-Goodbye RS6 Hello AMG

Post by stevo55 » Thu Apr 14, 2022 9:24 am

Now the C7 has gone I had a shortlist:
C7 PE
M5 Competition
R8
E63S

C7’s I’ve pretty much done now having had 2 but I don’t rule out a return. M5…..already have a boring 5 series diesel so didn’t want two BMW saloons.
R8….price was right for the pre 2015 ones but (I know I’ll get abuse but I like tech) they are proper dated inside and I know it’s about the engine etc etc but tbh I struggled with the C7 coming from a B9 RS5. The 2015 onwards R8’s are the ticket for me but at £85k + still too much to justify.
E63S…….my AMG experience on an A45 was bad frankly but that was that model and imo not a ‘true’ AMG which is all about aggressive power noise +++
So after much hunting for the right spec (trying to find a newer steering wheel with HUD and ACC is tough!) a 2019 with lower miles (19k) came up in Grimsby.
Drove up and it was one of those test drives that within 3 mins you just knew you were buying it.
They did me a cracking deal and I have to say the best customer service from any dealer anywhere I’ve encountered.
So-long story short, this beast arrives today:

Unpopular viewpoint here but a huge step
Forward from the C7. There have been lots and lots of reviews and infamous videos of these against RS6’s that haven’t shown the poor old 6 (even the C8) in a good light.
Looks wise the C7/8 have it pegged though. Front end is good but not RS6 good and the rear….quite why no flared arches is beyond me.
Ultimately it’s a straight out the box savage car that doesn’t need an aftermarket exhaust (the sound…mother of god) or more power etc etc.
So that’s it from me for a while! Want to actually drive this one as it has sensible low miles not stupidly low miles.
Once I get to know it I’ll put honest feedback on the ‘adversaries’ section and in the future probably be back in a Audi Sport of some sort.
Thanks for all the help/comments as always & see you on the roads!

I actually had to look up what one of those was.
Well it’s the fastest ‘coffin carrier’ I’ve ever driven.
I’m still getting to know the car and all the quirks and good and bad points. When I’ve got a better handle on it I’ll post an honest review in the ‘rivals’ section. One spoiler (and this is from a serial Audi RS owner)-it makes an RS6 feel a little (not a huge amount) slow. I know I’ll get hell for that on here but this is without a doubt the quickest car I’ve ever owned. It’s a lunatic of a car that’s scared me a few times.

Id be very interested to get your further thoughts...Ive actually just bought a 2017 Performance (which I love) but did toy with the idea of the AMG....It was the looks in the end that swayed be towards the RS6

I had the same decision before I bought my 6, Love the noise but I just couldn't live with the back end of the AMG. The 6 looks fast even when its parked up, the AMG looks like any Merc estate

That’s one of my minus points-the RS6 has it pegged for ‘passive aggression’ looks and no flared rear arches is a crime imo. The C8 also looks better.
But for Q Car status? It’s not bad and my plan is to black everything out (same as my old B9 RS5) to complete the stealth look. Those that know-know though I have found and I have had a few double takes when people see it.
Don’t want to ruin the review as I still need to do more testing but the simple fact is it outperforms and out handles the RS6 by a clear margin. Reviews show it does the same to the C8 am afraid to say and I do love my Audi RS products! It is shockingly quick and handles like a smaller model which is odd as it’s a big old lump.
Merc seem to be ahead of the game-upcoming AMG’s are ‘e hybrids’ and the latest GT 63 carries 843 hp which is insane in anyones language especially stock.
Audi RS need to really get with the program or we will continue to see Car Wow videos of RS’s looking like cart horses power wise.

Well that’s down to personal taste I guess and I don’t buy ugly cars! I’m dismayed at BMW’s offerings lately (barring the 3 5 and 8 series etc) and I just can’t come to terms with the beaver grille which is a shame as they will be absolute weapons on the road

Well in the ‘S’ the exhaust comes for free stock as opposed to spending extra for the Milltek (a I’ve had two and they are amazing)….and as for ‘bye bye’ there are very few areas that the RS can rise above the AMG I’m afraid. It is by far the most aggressive and fast car I’ve ever owned (not driven but owned) let’s put it like that.
