RS6 is finished )
Re: RS6 is finished )
On axle stands in my garage working solo it's 2 weekends work to replace the engine based on what I see in Astro's pic. The condition of your turbos and whether they unbolt OK or the studs need drilling and helicoiling would be key to whether it's an easier or harder job. But if my engine toasted itself tomorrow - could I be arsed? I am not sure. History says I probably would, but I'm older now.
I find it's 1.5 days effort out and 1.5 effort in. In addition, for a transplant, you'd plan on turbo & gearbox swap, plus cambelt. 1 day, subject to turbo note above. That's where the 4 comes from.
With a lift = quicker
With a mate = quicker
Not done it before = slower

Barry, is your engine still assembled or did unit 20 pull it apart?

Just got off the phone
with martin at unit 20 says is the engine with turbos ? As said he would replace them as the inter coolers were filling with quite a bit of oil, if not to refurb mine would be around £450 each plus labour to refit new engine would be 20 hours labour which is £1400 plus vat so all in about £1640 plus turbo rebuild if not with engine

Alright. How's this?
Pull your engine off the car, remove the turbos, cats, exhaust manifolds. If you have a mate with a van or can rent one, make your way over here with that engine.
You take my engine with you with no turbos cats or exhaust manifolds, for 1700GBP. Leave me yours.
This is how it roughly them breaks down :
1500 for turbos and retrofitting
~ 500 for your trip here
1700 for my engine
Gives you a small margin for "unplanned" other things.
My only condition: don't disassemble your engine.

That’s a really generous offer from you Astro.
Well done mate.
It gives Barry another option to consider if he decides to keep the car.

No problem, i had thought you might want to keep the engine and were only offering to help a forum member out, i understand and no problems on my partAstrosquirrel wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 8:51 am
Thank you and I appreciate the great place your suggestion is coming from. I've not yet been disappointed in this community![]()
For clarity though: I am not really "looking" to sell the engine. NC5RS6owner cited desperate times and I thought this could be a reasonable way to - help - and bring his car back. Seems to me that's not a possibility, so I'd rather hold on to it.
Really hoping my intent is clear and this comes off ok, as text can be misinterpreted.
