Is this the end after 12 years?

Hi Everyone,
Im not sure what to do as I only do basic DIY and my specialist has advised me that along with my car running rich I need brake pipes replacing and while they are doing that at least rear bushings may as well be replaced. He said that some of them dont seem to be available and hes not sure what would need replacing. Grizz suggested just dropping the sub frame to do the pipes which is an option. But if they really need doing where can they be found from?

After 12 years of ownership I dont know if I've had my fun and whether to let someone else take on running such a beast. They arent getting any younger and if I cant get parts or do jobs myself let alone simple running and maintenance costs should I just bow out? I still love the car but when you see how cheap other parts are on say a 3.0 bi tdi I let my heart rule my head for a few seconds but Id planned to keep it for longer than this. We've all had the discussion about increasing in value but I think not being as desireable as an RS4 B5 maybe they have reached a settling point and tbh anyone thats bought one in the last decade probably wont lose out that much when they come to sell one that has been maintained.

Anyway if anyone has ideas of where to get parts please let me know. TIA.

TPS and Audi will still have brake pipes as I got new ones last year for mine from TPS and the rear bushes you can get aftermarket ones that are just as good from strongflex(I think) running rice could just be the temp sensor.

Brake pipes are no biggy. You (or your mechanic) just make your own. For bushings if you can't get OE then there are plenty of poly bushes.

You raise a serious point, though. At some point the RS6, as with any other car, morphs into "classic" zone which implies that you don't drive it (much) and you try to maintain it in as good condition. This is pretty much incompatible with using it as a daily or having it as your only means of transport.

My car moved into the "classic zone" a while ago and only occasionally gets taken out. That's fine, I have other cars for menial jobs and I fully intend to keep mine until it's worth a lot of money or it outlives me, whichever comes first.

If you don't intend to go down this route, then you might as well just move on to pastures new. That's my opinion, anyway. I'm currently having this quandry with my E46... sell it now or see if it turns into a classic...

I always make my own rigid brake pipes, have done for decades.

Flexi pipes - reckon you can make your own using teflon, braided & plastic overcoated hose with stainless ends. I did this for the trim pumps on my boat (same pressures to brakes) and they are lovely. So when the time, comes, that's what the RS will get. If not, think automotive and others will make anything you want to a spec, including if needed, completely custom hose ends.

Bushes wise - most are available from strongflex as a kit I think, but if not, powerflex in the UK will make you anything you want.

It's OK, thanks. Can walk now, and use the right pedal, although still limping like a proper old man. Will just take time to build strength etc back now.

Looking at steering, oil lines and it's scary how very few options there are. Those available command crazy prices too. Not even OE parts available
