The gear lights of doom!!!
Re: The gear lights of doom!!!
I just bought a 5L container a while back online - probably Amazon. Has lots of uses.
Re: The gear lights of doom!!!
Yeah, I buy it in quantities of 5 litres and prefer the single containers but the offer on Amazon varies. Sometimes I buy it here:

Re: The gear lights of doom!!!
Cheers lads, picked some up so hopefully here soon so i can get them cleaned
Shop, is it best to fill a tub with it, and just stick the TCM/CCM in and submerge them for a few minutes, remove and dry or will it be a dab job? Assume it will remove any corrosion if its started?

Re: The gear lights of doom!!!
As long as the PCB is completely treated with the isopropanol. The aim is to get all the moisture off the PCB. If you open the box and expose the PCB then you are likely to get better coverage. Also it will help with drying a lot. Stick it on a radiator for a few hours afterwards. Hopefully the corrosion will be prevented before it can form.

Re: The gear lights of doom!!!
Ok, so think I have hopefully been lucky
Got into the CCM and found a very small amount of water inside the plastic case, removed the module and opened to check that, no moisture visible
Onto the TCU, not so good
Quite a bit of water inside the outer case, moved on to open and remove the module
Luckily looks to be no moisture on the pcb, but there was water ingress in the plugs when removed and there’s slight water in the connections on the module
I’ve taken it home with me to get some cotton buds into the connections and leave near a radiator for a while, hopefully this is what’s causing my gear issue lately
I was told the car had MTM upgrade from previous owner, he wasn’t sure but thought it was done at factory on purchase etc, but I found many of the tabs holding the case on either broken or stressed, when I went to bend them they just snapped off, so I’ll have to see how to seal it up again properly. Is there any tell tale signs if it’s had MTM TCU done? Seems like some ham fisted fcuk has done a mod more likely
Anyway, I’m left with a ridiculously saturated carpet to deal with now, has anybody removed one before? I have seats and most of console removed, just need to remove the main part and arm rest, hopefully carpet can remove after that
I strongly urge anybody who has had any of the usual faults like radio losing the safe pin or the sponge appearing on your dash etc, even if you don’t have these, go check the plenum area for standing water as it’s likely water inside the car causing the issues, the carpet is that thick that when I wet vac it all yesterday, I lifted the carpet tonight and still found loads in channels underneath, the actual carpet is holding it all as there is so much sponge and sound deadening, great for a quiet car but absolute balls for holding water, stay dry people

Re: The gear lights of doom!!!
Stole this from another forum, I thought they piggy backed the chip.
Avus Avant, RNS-E mk2 with sds and Bluetooth, Milltek, Hotchkis, Bilstein, Forge, ITG, A.C.E, Wagner, FBMFSW, MTM.
Re: The gear lights of doom!!!
In my case the chip was replaced with an MTM one.

Re: The gear lights of doom!!!
Scary stuff
Got the carpet out eventually, it was still saturated underneath although most of the top was dry, had to wet vac it all on the underside again and left it to dry out, then sprayed it with a CarPro enzyme spray, left that to soak in and dry to help with any mould or smells starting
Found the pollen filter was manky whilst under the bonnet unplugging the old girl, also had some water marks so decided on a nice fresh new oe replacement
Whilst all this was ongoing, I decided to do a bit of cleaning/mini detail whilst the car was apart, interior bits etc, but also noticed the sills were pretty bad
And the difference, obviously hasn’t been done for a while but looks amazing
Should be back together this week, and will probably feel faster with the amount of water I’ve wet vac’d out, free performance upgrade

Wow. You went all in. Noice. Now you can be sure it's dry at least.

Definitely Shop, it needed it as I thought I could smell damp a while ago, least now it’s peace of mind and hopefully my recent gear issues clear once it’s assembled again
Typical, I’d only just decided I’m keeping it now and this <beep> starts

Cheers Steve, let’s hope I’ve been lucky and caught it before it caused any major issues, can’t wait to get using it againsteve2003rs6 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 1:48 pmReally nice work mate. Hope everything turns out well and fully functioning. Good job.

Re: The gear lights of doom!!!
Today I had to re-do the failed Audi connection when the stereo initially went some months back, it’s probably a blessing in disguise as I struggled with the seat in last time so had the room now to make a better job of it
Some heat shrink once crimps were installed
And tied back into the original loom ready for carpet to go back in this week
