Is RS6 C6 still a good buy?

Post by c3nturi0n » Mon Nov 22, 2021 3:14 pm

hi chaps,

I parted co with my car last year... now 15ish months into it I'm being bitten again trying to get hold of one (or C7).

Latter aside (e.g. C7), just checking to see if C6 is worth exploring again? My challenge in justifying it is that they are
- now 13+ years of age
- will be prone to 'issues' and we know how dear repair costs are
- plus prices for a 'decent' car are now around the 20k mark (if not higher)

that in mind i'd be keen to get your feedback, e.g yay or nay :).

thanks

I think it depends whether you treat value for money in the conventional sense, or whether you also consider the investment proposition. Whenever you have a landmark car like this, that only sold in small quantities, you often find the value bottoms out after ten years, and then slowly climbs.

Many people including me will have compared a C6 RS6 with say a D4 S8, and you might conclude the RS6 doesn't make much sense. However the S8 will continue to depreciate for a while, so the RS6 cost of ownership will look rather better.

Another consideration is that RS6 owners really WANT to own them, and look after them better than most.

You could also take into account what has happened in the market to similar, older cars like the C5 RS6, for example.

Cheers Nick, interesting insights as always.

I have had a look at few cars in last few weeks and they all 'fit the bill' ... my issue is how to justify spending 20k + on a 13 year old ;). On the flip side, they won't be around forever and with COP and other green initiatives on the agenda, I guess it's now or never for petrol heads like us :))).

Wonder what others think?

I think the RS6 still has a few tricks up its sleeves. We haven't seen the best of it yet...

V10 coupled with 500+ bhp and the amount of practicality that it brings (for avg. middle aged chaps like us) > very hard to resist :)

Here's a thing - the RS6 Avant was the fastest estate car when it came out, and I certainly want a fast car and I want an estate car. But do they need to be the same car? Because of its age, rarity and value, I suspect it's becoming a weekend car rather than a daily driver. I don't think I would use it for commuting - an estate car would do for that.

Having said all that, I don't think I'd actually chose a saloon over the estate either. I'm just going round in circles.

Parking's a challenge where we are... it'll be daily for me with the worst possible scenario > 20-30miles a week in 20mph traffic.

Still puzzled is it a good buy @20k?!

Mine (regrettably) is up for sale at present. A change in jobs has made it that I need to use a car to commute, and I can’t justify the fuel bill unfortunately. I love the car, it’s fantastic to drive, and is by far the fastest car I have ever had the privilege to drive, but as said it’s a bit much as a commuter at 21mpg for me.

The forum isn’t allowing me to put the advert or the name of the selling site on a post. I’ll see if I can quickly knock up an advert in the selling section on here

Just posted a quick advert in the selling section. For some reason the photos are 90 degrees out though
