Suz. The last mot failure was in 2011 according to my search.
Yes there are a few advisories but a pass is a pass ?
Granted, its had a few advisories which havent been put right straight away, but lots of remedial stuff other than the pipes really

Looks to be somebody who doesnt have a clue and trying to act like they do with the responses, or theres a possible issue or 2 creeping in he knows about and just wants rid

I always go and look at a car and decide on condition etc, low miles doesnt = perfect car same as high miles doesnt = worn out if the owners have looked after it

I'm fussy. A list of advisories and some repeating means they're not obsessed with fixing everything. The obsessive fixer is the kind of previous owner I'd want for a car like this.

Shopp I cannot answer that in case she sees my response. Needless to say I recently replaced all my suspension.

Still at unit 20. The two main leaks have been cured.
1) Oil filter sandwich plate oil seal.
2) Turbo oil drain pipe again (But still have a very slight weep).
Oil filter sandwich plate copper washer which is NLA (on the thermostat side) below the top bolt on the bottom photo.
Or top right if you enlarge the photo.
Anyone got a spare washer or a complete sandwich plate for sale.
The washer thickness is critical size apparently as it impacts on the thermostat operation

All 4 cv boots done.
Just replacing the rear pdc sensors.
Then heading home.

Hard to believe that a small difference in the thickness of that washer would make any difference to an imprecise thermostat like that, but I'm sure Unit 20 know what they are talking about. I bet the thickness tolerance on the manufacture of those copper washers is around 0.1mm anyway.

What I would do is remove the washer, measure its thickness. Then source the next thickest standard crush washers. So if, for the sake of argument, that's a 22mm OD washer with a crushed thickness of 1.3mm then I'd get a washer that was 1.5mm thick and then tighten the thermostat until the gap is the same, using feeler gauges.

Worst case, you can file down the thickness if necessary, but I bet Audi just picked a standard washer for this application.

Thanks for the good advice Ben.
If all else fails I will have it removed and cnc one.
All depends how bad the weep is.
Cars almost ready. Lee is just on a test drive.

If you machine one then make sure it's annealed.

Hi Ben. Is that not right.
So it must be heat up to cherry red and allow to cool then.
Think I am slowly going senile since retirement.

Lee did a great job on the car. On it all day til 15:00.
She really is driving beautifully.
Will be interesting tomorrow morning and see if there are any drips on the drive. I am hoping that there isn’t any.
To be fair lee had the car running for 40 mins whilst the car was in the air. Everything was dry. So fingers crossed.
Christine is also happy after grizz gave her some lovely comments regarding her condition.
I swear she was smiling at us.

Did you mean to say Lee & Grizz are smilling at Christine because of all your money she's spent?
I'm sure she's worth it!

If you can't DIY, this is what you've got to do folks to keep these cars in good shape. It's still cheaper than typical depreciation on most cars and nothing else comes close for all round ability and performance.

Steve - enjoy.
