Best exhaust options for B9 RS4

Post by boxster8 » Mon Oct 26, 2020 9:20 pm

Ok, so the sound of the RS exhaust and the interior enhanced sound isn’t exactly doing it for me.
Coming from flat six Porsche’s, I would like a more genuine sound from the exhaust / engine.

Anyone out there feel they’ve got the best solution...... or could point me to company offering such.

Not looking for mental crazy noise, but more a natural enhancement.

Cheers

We share the same engine so I feel (or felt) your pain! The sound is the worst thing on the cars and to me on a performance halo mode it’s unacceptable and a common gripe.
Anyhow I had a Milltek non res race fitted to my RS5-had the sports exhaust fitted previously.
Has transformed the car. Search on my profile for the post about the exhaust with videos to help narrow your search.
Well worth doing and essential imo.

Whereas one of the things I like about it is its discrete and doesnt attract attention. My Son in Law had a C43 coupe and a GLC 43 and both were way too loud for my liking. Apparently my M5 was quite loud as well but I couldnt hear it in the car!

So I am hoping that the sound doesnt attract too much attention, in which case it will be one of the best things!

Milltek do a resonated Exhaust that isn’t as loud as the non res one.
Failing that you could go to PCW and get them to remove parts of the exhaust to get the sound you’ll be happy with? Cheaper route than any decent aftermarket exhaust as they are working with what’s fitted to the car.
Exhaust note is the USP of AMG’s though, having said that the one on my old A45 just sounded crap. You can only do so much with a small engine though.

Thanks - I am hoping the exhaust on it will be quiet enough in normal driving..... like to keep my cars OEM.

The Supersprint stuff is imported from Italy, probably needs buying before we leave the Custom's union and UK import duty is added to the cost....

Hi Stevo

Thanks for putting the videos up.
I’m liking the sound of yours with the flaps closed, but the pops and bangs seem a bit extreme with them open.... how do you find the two modes from inside the cabin ??
Have you done anything about the false sound that gets pumped into the car ??

Cheers
Shaun

Hi Shaun,

It’s not a drony noise (just put it in comfort if you wish) and you can hear a big difference in the sound when dynamic/individual (if you have DRC). It sounds more ‘real’ as opposed to the enhanced noise piped in. Most of the German brands do this save AMG I think and it’s just naff imo.
It’s louder in any mode and pretty full on in attack mode but that’s why I put the exhaust on to be honest! The resonated Milltek is more civilised I guess-there’s a few YT comparison videos out there.
