Fingers crossed.failing that will have to drive for someone to install a new display panel while I wait. And the chrome dial surrounds from the USA are a nice touch. Just lifts the cluster very nicely. Good quality.

Cartronix can replace the dis display for£120 inc vat + return postage next day delivery. Have to arrange a suitable date beforehand.
They can recode the spare cluster and milage correction but needs to be with the car.

Code the new cluster yourself. Send the old one off to have the screen replaced. Simple. That way you will have a spare cluster. And if you screw up the coding and brick your cluster it doesn’t matter.

Thank you Shop. Wise man has spoken.
Will go down this route when I am brave enough to attempt it.

You won't be alone. Sweegie's offered his help and I'm offering mine.

You can use a desktop if you can be bothered to drag it out to the car. I've also used a desktop with a 10m active USB extension on occasions.

Apparently there’s a pandemic on and shops are closed.

Also, laptops followed the same path as toilet paper when people realised they were going to have to work / study from home. Maybe supply has caught up with demand now.

Ha ha. Chip Shop opened up recently so have had quite a few fish chips and double mushy peas.
Yes finding decent laptops hard to get.
Been looking for windows 10 with wi fi facility.
Haven’t been on them for years so will have to get used to them again.
Birthday today so gonna treat myself.
R8 plus would of been nice. But cannot get one with my bank balance. Drove one on track day last year and fell in love.
So my efforts are on my other love the c5 RS6.
And settle for a laptop.
Thank you guys for your offers of help. Will very gratefully take you up on it when ready.

Laptop ordered. Expect it 3-5 days.
Looking forward to the replacement cluster. The chrome dial surrounds certainly lift the instruments very nicely.
Also looking forward to getting familiar with VCDS.
