RS4 B9 or RS6 C7 Performance
RS4 B9 or RS6 C7 Performance
Hi everyone
I'm trying to weigh up the relative merits of an used RS4 B9 vs an RS6 C7 Performance, in relation to these metrics/factors:
- Driving from the UK to Germany and Switzerland (with luggage for a small [three person] family),
- General motorway driving in the UK (London to Devon),
- General road presence and exhaust/engine sound,
- Relative fuel economy,
- Availability of exclusive colours in the used market.
I have an RS4 B8, which I find a bit slow off the mark at most times, a bit fidgety on the motorway and loves petrol stations(!)
Would anyone have any observations please?
Thanks

RS6 PE - End Of.....
RS6 is the daddy. RS4's RS3's, S3's (getting the picture) all pull level and either motion to blip the throttle / boot it, or just give the knowing smiles, nods and waves
I've just done 445 miles in my 6 PE today, Cardiff to Burnley and back, for a meeting (logistics, essential working) - feel like I've just been to the shops. It EATS the miles
Cruise 75 on the M5 and the sh1t storm of average speed checks at 50mph on the M6
Blast down the M50 (deserted) and A449 (deserted). Was doing a "Maverick going supersonic"
33mpg!! switches into 4cylinder mode
Noise - subdued std, no difference from a std B9 -
Exclusive colours are rare - you need billy big balls for some of them. There are 2 solar orange ones that have been sat around for months
There is a Noggy Blue on too, but no reverse camera from memory
Shout if you want any more info. If you live around S Wales, you're welcome to have a play and see what you think (with the car that is.

Re: RS4 B9 or RS6 C7 Performance
Thanks Iain for your thoughts and the offer; if I was around South Wales I would definitely like to try the PE, however I'm based in London...
I did try an RS5 B9 (in lieu of an RS4 B9) which was very quick off the mark, although I really struggle with the gigantic screen on top of the dash - it really looks like an afterthought next to BMW and Mercedes.
Do you find find the pop up screen a bit tricky to glance at when driving in your C7? It seemed a little too far to the left when I briefly tried a C7 some time ago.
Thanks

Re: RS4 B9 or RS6 C7 Performance
I do a lot of European driving and have considered a change from my PE to an RS4 b9 and to be fair... i just can't do it. Whilst the RS4 is quick, some better tech and would probably do the job very well the 6 munches those motorway/Autobahn miles, at any speed, better than anything else I have ever driven. Driven conservatively you can still get around 30 mpg too and I also have a strong dislike to an infotainment screen that needs to be out all the time - strangely i like to decide myself if it is in or out. Anyhow I'm sure either will be just fine but for now I am sticking to what I have for those reasons.

Thanks Scotty; how do you find Misano Red on the '6? I guess it attracts a fair amount of attention.
Re: RS4 B9 or RS6 C7 Performance
Not at all as you can close the screen and the Nav and all functions are available in the instrument cluster and also the HUD if you choose one with that fitted. You can always retract the screen too if it gets annoying. I don't give the screen a second thought tbhRS4Guy... wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 8:28 pmThanks Iain for your thoughts and the offer; if I was around South Wales I would definitely like to try the PE, however I'm based in London...

Re: RS4 B9 or RS6 C7 Performance
Yes well it's not exactly a stealth colour and it's a lot of red but i am good with it. I've had two and in the town I live i have recently seen two others (not with the black pack though). when it comes to part ex, Dealers will tell you it's not the most desirable colour but that's surely a matter of opinion and for their advantage. In the sunshine it looks superb and it can look different shades at different times of the day too. They all attract attention, and from all age groups too, but yes you certainly can't hide from anyone in Misano and so long as people see you coming in their rear view mirror then they will usually get out the way

I had the same dilemma last October and the PE won hands down.RS4Guy... wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 8:28 pmThanks Iain for your thoughts and the offer; if I was around South Wales I would definitely like to try the PE, however I'm based in London...

Didn't like the sound of the B9 at all and it had no soul. I liked the tech side of it being a bloke but that was it. Same with the new C8, just not for me. Pop up screen isn't a problem and I don't find it difficult to view.
What side of London are you??

Re: RS4 B9 or RS6 C7 Performance
Hi Shane, thanks for your observations.
I'm based in south-west London and I frequently see an Ascari blue '6 near Clapham Junction and it really does have a presence on the road (even if the B9 RS4 does have a somewhat fresher design...)
