Audi RS6 C7 2015 facelift

Post by Pinky911 » Thu Jan 02, 2020 4:35 pm

Hi all,

Recently got an RS6, have some practical questions that maybe some of you can help out with, by pointing in the right direction, as I’m sure these are not really new things. I could research each and every one of them on my own, but its just too much “literature” on the topic.. its really hard to navigate through.
So I’m looking for some practical advice from people who encountered the same things, not from “i read online you can do x, y, z” type folks :)
Even simple copy-pasted links to threads that deal with these issues would be very much appreciated.

So.

#1 - i got a 2 person backseat and looking to swap to 3 seater - aside from the valcona & alcantara finish, which are likely harder to find, assuming I dont manage to find an actual RS backseat, do A6 backseats of the same generation fit? How about the extra seatbelt? Does it come with the A6 backseat?

#2 - i noticed there’s a phone SIM slot. What’s the use case? Setting up a WLAN hotspot for the passengers? Just a phone? Both? Any extra functionalities that get unblocked if you have an internet connection? Over the air updates?

#3 - DRC (which I’ve noticed to be quite a pain..). My suspenssion works fine, no rattling noise, no “clunk clunk” noise, etc. However, curious of what the procedure for killing DRC alltogether is? If I get a set of aftermarket dampers, remove DRC and handle the Ecu side of things, do I also lose the dynamic/confort options for the suspensions? Or is DRC not tied to that?

#4 - is the timing chain or belt driven? Outside of the “it’s noisy” reason, any other recommendation of when to inspect/change? Mileage?

#5 - can iOS Carplay be enabled on this model?

#6 - Are there aftermarket vendors that sell the “Performance” package? I read its not only a remap but different radiators, some exterior ornaments, exhaust tips, etc. If not, does an Audi dealer offer the package?

That’s mostly it :) I’d really appreciate some pointers.
Cheers!

Hi Pinky

I'm fairly new to RS6's (But ive had 2 since august) but will try and answer your questions.

#2 sim slot can also do map updates, google maps instead of standard maps, look up certain info and make calls if you choose it to.

#5 depending on your year will depend if you can have carplay, there is a great thread on here about getting it added, I used the guy in china to do my first one and am thinking about it again for my new one, £120 v £400 from Audi.

#6 loads of aftermarket vendors for tuning, MCR seems to be the big popular one and performance parts seem to be all over the internet, from ABT to Akrapovic. you can pick up a performance exhaust quite cheep from what I have seen but you may be better with a non audi part.

Good luck with your new car

Thanks Sandy!

Can you share contact details for the guy in China? :)
For the sim part - great news! Any handy link/reference as to how to go about it once I have an active 3G/4G sim installed?

Thanks a lot for the reply!! Appreciate it!

#1 Does your log book state the car is 4 or 5 seater? If it says 4 seater and you make it into a 5 seater make sure you check with insurance company as they could obviously get funny if you make a claim and there are 5 people in it but the log book says it is only a 4 seater car.

#2 The biggest benefit for me was the ability to send a sat nav destination from my phone to the car for later. Also, you can search for / set destinations using google maps so for shops / businesses you get taken direct to the building rather than just a postcode that takes you to the approximate area.

#3 Be warned, disconnecting the DRC system will leave you with an error light on the dash. And yes, if you fit aftermarket dampers / coilovers you will lose the comfort / dynamic option (it'll still be there but won't do anything unless your new dampers are compatible with the standard system; I recall a set early on advertising that it would be but think it never came to fruition).

#4 it has a timing chain.

if you want CarPlay enabled contact https://www.hazzydayz.com they just did my 2015 RS6 with a CarPlay update, and a couple of other bits, cannot recommend them highly enough.

I’m not sure i need a hw module for carplay, reading through various other pages, it might be that I just need a MMI software update.
I’ll keep on searching.
Thanks for the info!

Easiest way to check is call Audi and ask them for a quote. If it’s ~£400 you don’t need hardware.
