10 days in.... couple of questions\issues......

Post by Lig » Mon Jun 24, 2019 3:52 pm

Hi all,

So 10 days into ownership and loving every minute of it..... couple of questions \ issues...

1. Everytime I open a door (when the car has 'shut down' completely, i.e no handbrake lights on or anything), it makes an electrical noise for a second or two, like a buzz... is that normal? What is it? It sounds like its coming out of a speaker??
2. I did a 400mile round trip at the weekend and noticed maybe half a dozen times, always seemed to be when in cruise control, that the car kind of 'hiccuped' for a very split second, so like it had a bad bit of fuel or something? Maybe its nothing and wont do it again, but I deffo felt it...??
3. AMI - Had my iphone plugged in and on the first 200mile leg, it worked fine... Coming home again half a dozen or so times it just lost connection and then reconnected straight away (not linked to the hiccup above). Any ideas what this could be, I checked the connection and everything was plugged in solid.... again maybe just a journey gremlin? But worth mentioning...
4. MPG - Just to mention..... computer read just over 30mpg for each 190mile leg, which I was very happy with, for mainly A road driving but with the compulsory foot slipping to the floor blasts out of roundabouts etc... Measured the actual MPG and its about 28 which still happy with .... I was actually expecting less.... Is this the norm?

Any comments on the above gratefully received ...

Cheers,
Lig.

1. Normal. It’s the car waking - transmission pump I think.
2. Normal, that is the cylinder deactivation saving you fuel.
3. No idea.
4. Sounds right.

2. Yep you can confirm if it's the COD by putting the DIS onto the MPG screen. When it goes into 4 cylinder mode it tells you here. You can make it go into 4 cyl in any gear and any mode even dynamic. Just use the throttle very very lightly for a short while and it will do it. Think it needs to be sort of warmed up first.
3. Get a decent phone?
4. I averaged 18mpg but on long motorway runs I got up to 22.

Are you sure that number 1 isn't the electronic handbrake activating?

Yes. It’s either fuel pump or gearbox, it was explained to me by Audi technician but I can’t remember which he said #oldage

I always thought it was the fuel pump priming.

Or does 30mpg sound too high?

Hi Mike, it may sound high, but I did actually measure it (filled up, did the journey, filled up again, worked it out) and it was just over 28 (but the journey mileage didn't include the blast home from the filling station at the start - a good 10 miles, which is why the 30mpg on the display is probably correct). So its between 28.4 and 30.2MPG, but nearer the 30.....

So this makes me think your 22 sounds low?! Especially on a long motorway run....

i've never measured mine but never seen even near to 30 on the dash. Being very frugal on a run I might see 24 but average around the 20 mark.

That is interesting ..... As a law abiding citizen now (having been caught twice in the last month 71 in a 60 on both occasions Grrrrrrrrrrrr), I did have the alarm set at 80 and I did try to stick to 78 ... but there were a couple of occasions where I did exceed this but never over 90 officer...... All A roads with plenty of roundabouts, blasts out of some roundabouts and like I say 30.something avg.... So yes maybe a bit Miss Daisy driving.

ab54666 - I would say as MarkP said 30mpg is about right, and if on a Mway\A1 type run at 70-80 you are not getting near 30 then there could be something wrong - do you not think ???

Cheers,
Lig.

Everywhere I read before I bought said expect 20-25, I think Audi's combined claim was about 29mpg so if you're beating that it's mighty impressive, I drive most of the time in dynamic/sport which probably doesn't help! And I always turn off stop start. rarely put it in cruise........

Next time I fill up i'll measure it properly but will be surprised if it's that much different to what the computer says. Maybe i'll give 'economy' a go and see what I can achieve, I spend too much time smiling at the pops and bangs and acceleration

I would get 28-30 on mine at 80mph. 23mpg average in 30k miles, but a lot of long distance stuff.

As above, never had car in comfort!! But it is not the law breaking speeds that kill the economy, it's flooring it whenever a gap opens up that kills up. And I love a slip road!
