Nice pipes Image mine look nothing like that...wondering if I should just coat them in grease and hope for the best of would that just be pointless? Audi gave them a clean bill of health and looking back at my photo it looks like a past of the pipes is corroded the rest is the metal clamp.
I Actually covered mine in underseal and then covered it with some shaped thin steel i had laying around my unit, so it bascially acts as a "water shield"

Thats a good idea I have just had the coolant lines replaced on mine. Thankfully everything else was ok!

Just had mine replaced! They were nasty, car's a 2008 on 46k miles. Basically every C6 needs this doing asap, its not an engine out job and Unit20 had in done in a morning! I regularly covered mine with white grease to protect them too

My new lines with the guys who do my powder coating for a layer of NATO spec epoxy, then I need to find the time to fit them.

Wow now THAT'S corrosion!! Mine (when I owned it) looked nothing like that. It really does seem that it's an inevitability and sooner or later they will need replacing. How much did Unit 20 charge?

Not gone through the bill as I had a few jobs done at the same time. Usually i give them a heads up on things I know needs doing and let them sort anything they spot on the day. The quote I had was parts + 4 hours labour

I think the fact that it's not an engine out job will be a relief to many...20-24 hours worth of labour cost plus parts adds up to quite the bill

You would need to pull engine if you're replacing the whole pipe with a new OEM one but if you're just cutting out the corroded section from the existing pipe and replacing it with a custom section (which is what Unit20 etc do) then you don't.

I'm just painting my new ones with stone guard. Unit20 have fitted genuine parts not custom and there's no evidence of cutting and joining.

Im looking at an RS6 C6 and had a look through the wheel arch at the pipes and i can see some surface corrosion. Just wondering if treating it would save the pipes.

Having seen other pipes, there looks like there are couplers as if a section of the pipe has been replaced.

Does anyone know what colour the original coolant pipes are? I took my offside wheel off today to take a look at the condition, mine look black but in some of the photos the pipes look silver. All cleaned up nicely so I will perform annual checks. Car is on 31,000 miles but have seen some need changing around 40k so I was expecting to see a lot worse. Before and after pics below.

They're black. The OE coating is poor stuff to put things mildly - the guys who coated my new ones were less than impressed and also slightly surprised that the original pipes on my car had lasted as long as they did. Yours look amazingly good compared to most.

+1.

on Avg they are good for 8-10 years :). (e.g. in current terms, avg lifetime of a car's "model").

slightly off the topic and out of curiosity, what's the part # for oil seal?

And is it a single seal that needs replacing or several?

Thanks!
