It's not a massive issue just annoying really to have to open it with the key.

You don’t need Vagcom to fix that. Just repair the keys. Hold lock button put key in ignition and turn to position 1, take key out and it’ll work.

Also, put a new battery in it first before re-pairing, to make sure it's got sufficient capacity to retain the pairing info!

I think the new battery is what caused the issues.

It was intermittent when I replaced it last year but now completely dead. Followed the guide in the C5 FAQ but it didn't work annoyingly.

I will dig the cable up once I'm back it's just annoying at the moment.
