Best tyres???
Best tyres???
Hi all, my rs6 has got Dunlop sport maxx gt’s On it and they’re terrible, what’s the popular one yous are all using these days?
Re: Best tyres???
What size wheels do you have? If you have 21s then go for the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. If you have the 20s go for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S.
Re: Best tyres???
Hi bud it’s the 21’s I have sorry, ill check that out thanks
Re: Best tyres???
I have 21" and am about to fit Mich PS4S which, from my experience on my C5 beast, are substantially better than the PSS.
The challenge is that they are only available in 295/30 rather than 285. The slight increase in width is probably no problem, but to be sure I'm fitting 5mm spacers all round - just waiting for the bolts to arrive!! The small increase in rolling radius will be negligible.
Good luck.

Re: Best tyres???
Or you could try moving to a 295/30/21 tyre which means you can get the Michelin PS4S. I think I might try this next time I need new tyres.
Edit; great kinds think alike.

Re: Best tyres???
Hey, would 295 fit stock rims? 9.5j only. I want the PS4S but too bad they don't produce 285/30/21.
Sighs

Re: Best tyres???
They'll fit the rims no problem, and should still clear everything without problems. I'm only fitting 5mm spacers cos I'm a "belt'n'braces" sort of chap!

Re: Best tyres???
Dave, how are you getting on with this? I have some Continentals on mine (no idea what) and am considering swapping them all out for something else. I normally run summer tyres all year round being honest and don't tend to have any problems that I can't get myself out of. Wife has no problems on summers all year round either.
I am sure I am being paranoid about winding diffs up and the like, but tyres are currently on OSF: 4.2MM NSF: 3.6MM OSR: 5.4MM NSR 5.6MM, so the good old roundabout tyre seems potentially a little low for my liking.

Re: Best tyres???
Hi - timely question!! They finally went on yesterday following a long saga involving H&R having an erroneous drawing on their site for measuring bolt lengths, and H&R/ECP getting their wires crossed on the re-order and losing my bolts for a week.
Anyhow, went on yesterday and so far very pleased - feels a lot more predictable than the (very) worn Dunlops and way more grippy on a damp road last night (the M3/A331 north side is always really greasy so a useful benchmark!!).
The 5mm spacers and 10mm wider tyres (ie outer face at 10mm wider) seems to fill the arches much better - I'll take some pics when the sun comes out in an hour or two - I did the "before" set last night.
Obviously early days, but based on my C5 experience I think Mich PS4S is the way to go!
Good luck

Re: Best tyres???
4S has softer sidewall than SS giving better ride. SS v noisy over road imperfections / cats eyes etc. Enough for me to avoid next time, particularly as 4S better elsewhere too.

Re: Best tyres???
Tempted to say that they were round, and so didn't have an end...What was the end price for the tyres Dave?
Tyres were £1120 from Camskill, and the spacers, bolts and fitting added about another £200 to that.
Not cheap... but then neither am I!!

Re: Best tyres???
OK - final final word!
I was slightly concerned at the uneven wear on the old tyres so I had it aligned today, and it was off on almost every dimension. The guys did a good job and pretty well everything is now as I wanted and very close to the centre of all the ranges etc.
Also put the pressures up to the recommended values (it was running a little low).
Had the chance to floor it on a wet road overtaking (ie crossing the crown of the road. No squirm whatever!!
So, combination of excellent rubber, and spot on geometry and pressures, it is finally sorted!
