What remap people are running

Post by cpufreak » Wed Nov 30, 2005 1:39 am

there's been quite a lot of praise for MRC remaps recently amongst B5 S4 owners, which has intreiged me.

My car runs Revo code, which I'm thrilled with. - its smooth, and fast (best FATS time of 4.46 seconds), and I'm curious what code people are running and what figures they're running and etc etc.

am going on rolling road day at awesome gti on 10th december, so will post figures from there up after then.

I'm not interested in a my tuner is better than your tuner argument. I am just interested in what remap people are running and the reasons why they like it (or not).

If people have had multiple remaps on their cars, comparisions between the two would be welcomed, as long as they are given in a positive/constructive manner.

I've included Revo, AMD, MRC, MTM, APR, and 'OTHER' on the list for the poll, as I can't think of any other tuners in the UK who cater for the S4 apart from maybe superchips :P

I have had four different maps on my K03 S4, from Stock, Upsolute x 2 (first was weak in the mid range, 2nd tripped limp mode consistently), finally Fastech, which ran the best of the K03 chips, consistent 5.2 sec FATS times. Stage 2+ (full exhaust + chip).

With full stage 3 K04 setup, 2 remaps, I originally had a Geoff Everitt remap, never happy ran very lean up top causing ECU to pull timing. Wasn't faster than 2+.

Recently went with MRC custom remap. Now done sub 4 secs FATS. Awesome.

I have found MRC to be much better than Revo although different mapping and different power delivery. Was also very dissapointed with some REVO settings that we found.

AMD - Mental boost in the mid range - defo turbo killer. I found the car very enrelaxing to drive.

MRC - very smooth and predictable. Timing is now what it should be - Timed.

MRC custom remapped mine a few months ago, previously the car was standard when I bought it.

I will be going back to MRC for a little tweak when I upgrade the exhaust.

Now that cpufreak has kicked this off, it would be interesting to see the final outcome - any more votes please...?

Cheers for the replies everyone.

Would be interesting (to me) from an informational point of view if the others who have AMD code, or MTM code, are able to comment on thier experiences with their remaps.

I've personally had quite a lot of experience with AMD for mechanical/parts things, as they've done the brakes, suspension, exhaust on my car, and I also use them for servicing.

I choose to run a Revo remap, as my old car was used for development for one of their remaps, as a result of this I got to know the people at Revo well, and as such I trust them to write good code. Well that, and I get to fiddle a bit with settings with the SPS3 switch which keeps me entertained.

Hey you could go one step better and buy my old AMD chip off me and experience the remap yourself.

PM me if you want - sure we can strike up a good deal.

lol :)

I nearly did something along those lines....when I took my car along for the 60k service, waterpump, cambelt + full milltek system, Scott offered to custom remap the car as a good will gesture, unaware that the car was running Revo code.

However, before the service, there was something not quite right, in that in standard mode I was flowing about 206g/s, but revo'd I was only flowing 220g/s, and performance was down compared to other remapped S4s and also how it felt when it was first Revo'd - although unfortunately I had no datalogging from then.

No fault codes were being logged, so I was at somewhat of a loss, so as I was getting the milltek fitted, I asked AMD if I'd be able to collect the car post service + milltek, and them maybe bring it back in a few weeks, with a spare ECU to get an AMD custom map flashed onto the 2nd ECU, so I could do a side by side comparison.

In carrying out the servicing, AMD noticed that one of the DV hoses had split slightly, and so replaced it, the upshot of this being that my car now goes properly. The theory behind the hose splitting is, I fitted forge 007DVs after getting remaped, and I probably caused it...doh!

Anyway, now there is no incentive for me to try other code, as I'm happy with Revo...although Revo don't (yet) do Stage2/Stage3 code for the 2.7 biturbo, so I might be forced to if I go down the ATP Eliminator upgraded turbo route.

Well, if thats the end of the poll, its pretty conclusive, but this is only a sample of the S4 B5 owners - I wonder what the profile of all models is...? Where do we post a poll for that Crew?

Thanks for all your posts.

With only 29 votes, this represents approximately only half of currenly active S4 owners on the forum.

Is it safe to assume that everyone else is running stock map? (or that I should have included that as an option in the poll?!)

I'm running stock but then again i've only had it 2 weeks and i'm still trying to get to grips with the standard performance. plus her indoors drives it occasionaly and i can't see the wisdom in giving her another 50 bhp to play with when she regularly returns 18mpg out of her passat 1.8T. a wild stab in the dark tells me it'd all end in tears, lol
