NFU = this lot?
https://www.nfumutual.co.uk
Yes.

I knew what you meant scottie :bigblink:

NFU call it a Mutual Bonus Discount & this discount increases (alongside your NCD) each year. This is now my 2nd year with NFU & my Mutual Bonus Discount at renewal was £183.17, against a premium of £1,497.97, so with this additional discount my annual premium is now £1,314.42 for the 2 cars (A8 Black Edition & Golf R Estate).

Despite promoting NFU earlier i am now perplexed

Was just about to purchase a policy when the guy said I wouldnt be covered for the new car replacement because my car is on PCP and i dont own it. Apparently you have to own it outright

I have never been told this before. I suspect no one here knows this either. It just doesnt make sense to me.

Reading their booklet it states We will only replace your car a/if you own the car or are buying it under a hire purchase agreement or other type of agreement where ownership of the car will pass to you and b/the hire purchase company agrees.

Now the guy went away and double checked with the underwriters and held his position.

Anyone with NFU i recommend you get clarification.

I called NFU who asked my postcode then stated they weren't competitive in my "area" and wouldn't quote....

My postcode is pretty much one of the safest according to the insurance list....

Make of that what you will.

NFU tend to avoid big cities, particularly London and Birmingham (take Manchester and Liverpool as read). They cover our flat in London (competitively) but didn’t want to quote for the car outside.
Great company to deal with though - and I speak from 25 years experience.

PS Glasgow is an obvious exception ;)

Spoke with NFU today who were by far and away cheaper than anyone else I approached. I was also told they would not replace the car if on PCP. Audi threw GAP in for free so not too concerned. Multicar was not so good with them, the Mrs Polo GTi was going to cost more than the RS6, go figure... They couldn't even explain why. Anyway, most pleased the forum came up trumps again!!!

My renewal is due now too. Previously Admiral as well. Renewal quote this year is £1,080 for my facelift non-PE and my wife’s Polo (each covered on both inc business use but not commuting). Up from £850 last year for the two. Haven’t started shopping around yet.

I just moved everything from Admiral to Esure. Almost half the price. Great service too, very slick.

I'm with NFU also. From their website it says:

"New vehicle replacement if it’s less than two years old, is stolen or written of, and you’re the owner"

My understanding was I am the registered owner and keeper of the vehicle on a PCP (unlike a lease, where the finance company is the owner) and the finance company simply retains an interest in the vehicle. Therefore for insurance purposes I am the owner?

Similar to the fact I am the owner of my house, even though its on a mortgage?

and in their policy document at https://www.nfumutual.co.uk/globalasset ... ooklet.pdf

It says on page 22:

Car – New Car Replacement
If the CAR is a UK specification model and less than two years old from the date of first registration as new and it is:
a) subject to THEFT and not recovered; or
b) damaged so that repairs will cost more than 60% of the manufacturer’s new car list price (including car tax, VAT and fitted accessories) at the date the damage occurred; or
c) damaged so that repairs will cost more than the CAR’s current value (as determined by Glass’s Guide adjusted values) at the date the damage occurred then WE will pay the cost of replacing the CAR (subject to availability) with a new car of the same make, model and specification. The original CAR will then belong to US.

WE will only replace YOUR CAR if
a) YOU own the CAR or are buying it under a hire-purchase agreement or other type of agreement where ownership of the CAR will pass to YOU and
b) the hire-purchase company agrees.

I concur. If you pay the balloon ownership passes to you. It is not a lease.
