RS6 Performance: Amber Warning says "Reduce Oil Level"

Post by z80 » Thu Mar 01, 2018 10:55 am

Hi,

It last had an oil change 2 months ago and no warning.

Yesterday, ping: "Reduce Oil Level".

Oil can't increase on its own so must be a sensor fault?

Any advice welcome. It's a warranty issue.

Thanks,

Simon

More than likely a faulty sensor - dealer will rectify under warranty. Had it happen three weeks after first oil change, and worryingly 1200 miles from the UK !! They advised it was safe to drive and had it done when I returned.

Not the first person to have this and I am sure someone will be along to explain soon. BTW oil level can rise a bit if you do lots of short journeys when the engine doesn't get up to temp and boil off water in the oil from combustion (it forms an emulsion, often seen as mayo under the oil filler cap).

Wow, quick answers. Thanks for those guys.

Could well be the short journey issue. Car's now two years old from new and only done 5850 miles.

Thanks,

Simon

I had this on mine when a few years ago. It is possible to slightly overfill the car with oil (it came like that out of the factory to me!)

I took it to the dealers to check it out and they had a look said it was fine and clear the warning. Never had it again.

33k is good going in that time. I realised a while back, when I sold both my previous cars, that neither had depreciated any slower with lower mileage, and that I should actually just get out and drive them instead of worrying about resale value so much.

Defo car is to be driven not tucked away hoping it won’t lose a shed load. In the 15 months I’ve had mine all it’s needed is servicing and brakes. Not bad for a 68k car.

Bath Audi, my dealer said it's the highest specced RS6 in the country. Their words, not mine. They reckoned it's worth circa 65K on eg PistonHeads now which is a 39K hit in 24 months. Ho hum.

Now considering a 705PS ABT tune but the dealer says there's been some sort of recent communication from The Brand saying they're taking an even dimmer view of detected tunes when the car's being diagnosed whilst hooked up to their kit. I'm waiting for more news about this. Richter Sport don't know about this most recent comment.

Thanks for your replies.

What’s the spec of your car? Would be a joke if Audi had an issue with an ABT map especially considering the recently released Nogaro Edition is running an ABT map. You’d have thought they could come to some sort of arrangement.

I thought the agreement was with various national Audi groups and Audi UK have no warranty cover for ABT cars and therefore probably one of the reasons that the ABT version is not for sale in the UK. ABT offer a limited warranty for their modified UK cars, not Audi.
