New battery

Post by rtd » Tue Jan 09, 2018 3:21 pm

Think I need to replace my battery has anyone replaced a battery thus far? Where is best place to get one, should I stick to the original supplied unit or get a better one?

Would the battery be covered by the manufacturers warranty which is still valid until end of October.

Can get a CTEK 5.0 for £50-60?

Cracking bit of kit, can bring a battery back from seeming dead.

Recommended to "condition" your battery once a year, or use to charge if car left for a while.

My previous car was 12 years old still on original battery.

Crazy prices! I understand that the humble battery of yesteryear is now a sophisticated bit of kit so much so that the car systems need to be updated with the identification number of the battery to optimise its charging and life! So not sure if just any garage can fit a replacement (without VCDS or the like). I’d hope that if it is a like for like replacement (capacity/ chemistry etc) then the coding would only be a housekeeping and not a technical issue.

If you do get your existing one load tested remember not to allow then to apply the tester for more than a 1 or 2 seconds or you will definately need a new one (the internal battery temperature will rise so quickly it will damage the internal plates etc!)

I can certainly recommend the CTEK as I have rejuvenated quite a number of car batteries with mine.

As regards a replacement battery, do look at carbattery2u.co.uk They do great deals, including the cost of rapid delivery.

eg. their 019ss (stop start)battery:

Varta Car Battery AGM 019 / G14 / DIN 595901085

Mini Cooper S ("hot"Chili) 265BHP; VW Fox 59BHP; Citroen C1 68BHP!!

Doesn't a new battery need to be coded for some reason?

Call out Audi breakdown assist! They may even change it there and then under warranty as dealers vary between what they will not replace under warranty
