Maf seals

Going to be changing my plugs in a few weeks and after reading on here thought it'd be a good idea to get a set of seals for when the airbox comes off just in case.
Popped to Audi and nearly had a heart attack at the prices!
The blue uprated ones from USA look good but one set only has two seals?

Do you just need to replace the lower seals or buy two sets of the uprated seals at around $120 plus postage and import tax? If so it works out the same price as Audi!

I’ve only got one set of the uprated blue ones from the USA and I’ve never had any problems with them.

They just need a bigger push to get them to seat right

I'm running the Apikol seals as well. They're OK. There was a chap who found a generic/industrial part number for some seals a while back, IIRC. I didn't buy them on account of already having these - but might be worth a search back through the forum.

How much were audi asking out of interest?

£28 each for the lower ones and £38 each for the uppers, plus vat of course

So near on £160 all in 7 day wait.

Silly money for what they are, but not much in the grand scheme of things.

Why don't you see if you need them before buying?

I have been using apikol , and they are good value , and work well.

So general opinion is the lower seal is what causes issues and top seal has a liger service life?

I'd forgotten there even was a top seal. It's the lower one that wears and ultimately fails.

How hard are the bottom seals to change over, oem price seems reasonable to be honest, and that would be them done.

I'm yet to change them but from research it seems you remove the airbox ensuring maf plugs are carefully removed and the maf sensors come off with it then just swap rubber seals out of intake pipe work.

Right so got the genuine Audi ones my advice would be don't bother. I had to destroy the old ones to get them out and the ones I've got from Audi dealers are a mil or two too big, they refuse to fit the pipe even with a gentle hammer tap and now the cars stranded over my work pit.

Going to head down to dealers tomorrow and year em a new one given the money I paid and they don't fit. Very poor build quality lots of excess rubber melted over metal ring etc.

A couple of wraps of electrical tape around the mafs is what most do to fix this. Seals them up nice, did mine over 3 years ago and still silky smooth.

Not a bad idea that. In the end I gave up as was hammer tapping them and they still didn't want to budge. I wasn't going to damage them for no reason.

Managed to bend the originals back into some sort of shape and refitted, cars running okay so no worries there. Got a set of Akipol ones ordered tonight along with a road spec diff mount for a lil Xmas present for her.

Even though mine weren't leaking it was clear the difference between old and new. They obviously deteriorate very quickly
