Without seeing the condition of the car id say it looks like a good price from a dealer as i see a thread the other day about someone selling ceramics and i think the going bid was 1500-2000?

Maybe its not very good in reality though.

The last set of B7 ceramics that sold on this forum (about 6 months ago) were up for 2.5K. The chap selling them could have sold them 10 times over at that price, and he even had to turn down substantially higher offers over the asking price.

I'd say this car is worth viewing and the dealer is happy for it to be inspected as long as its close. He couldnt tell me if it was still on DRC or not though. I've sold my Autobiography today but i didnt really want another black car but it has a sunroof too!!! lol

Hi Bund, congrats on sale today. Are you getting car inspected by an independent, I think this is always a good idea, you also have a buffer with the 6 month warranty as well, tyres and brakes all look good, if you know registration of car, do a Google search and check any advisories on recent Mot's but an independent inspection will cover more than an MOT does, gives you peace of mind!

Hi Bund. Having recently sold a black saloon privately, I would say this car is definitely worth seeing.

The price seems very keen, so I would have the front ceramic disks and pads checked (I think they a 2K per disk if they need replacing). Get the DRC checked, easily done if on a ramp. The drivers bolster looks very worn, but don't let this put you off, they can be easily refurbished with a bit of effort. I did mine a few months ago and did a short write up on here. Check the parking sensors are working properly, easily overlooked because the light just flashes if there is a fault. Also, check the bolsters inflate and hold pressure. They may have been disabled on the dash computer, and can easily be switched on again. Check both flaps on the exhaust are functional.

The ceramics are certainly worth having if you like braking late, they streets ahead of the already very good steel setup.

Thanks, it’s been up for sale on and off for months, even yesterday I questioned it as swapping to a B7 isn’t the obvious choice as the sport was my daily. Yet it’s difficult to sell anything at the moment of decent value so thought to let it go.

Ideally I want to buy privately but the price of this along with the ceramics make it of interest and it’s not far. I wonder if most of the obvious stuff can be seen through an Audi health check? Really want someone in the know to say those discs are still good and serviceable. Did these early generation of ceramics fail like the ones on the 996 gt Cars?

I’ve seen a couple of cars and some forum members again have been pointing out what I need to look for so again thanks for the pointers. I have a feeling this car doesn’t have drc though, he certainly wasn’t sure.

Went to see this car, looks good and has a lot of what i wanted. A couple of problem areas and not sure if easy fix, the plastic loop holes in the drivers seat are both broken, can they be replaced without taking the seat to pieces and out of the car? The discs, i haven't seen many up close, i looked hard at them and on one disc i could see little lines coming away from the holes and some times they went from hole to hole, the other discs didn't seem to have these.

It's very common to have small cracks on ceramic disks. It would be difficult to say for sure if it's a concern though without seeing them.

Can't comment on the seats. I'm sure I've seen people upgrade these up to carbon so it can't be too difficult.

I wanted to see a few more cars but the dealer has a few emails with people offering to come and swap for their steels and 2k. I'd really want someone in the know to see the discs as I wouldn't have considered this car without them as i didnt want black again and its on crap cheap new ish tyres, uni royal or something.

The plastic parts, audi want £100 ish for and to do it, wait for it....... 4-5 hours = £930 labour :)

Any link for the carbon bits you mentioned?

The plastic seat belt hoops just unclip with a plastic trim removal tool slipped between them. Originally have a dab of glue holding them together as well as the tabs but hold together fine without glue.

Yes I see what you mean, there is vertical cracks from one circular duct to another in places on the ceramic discs, these are the discs in question by the way all!

"When the discs are in a new condition, the friction faces are covered with a complex and varied expansion crack microstructure. Individual thermal expansion cracks run partially along the perforation holes. This crack microstructure is pronounced in places... The thermal expansion crack microstructure occurs during the production process and is not an indication of a problem" Just had a read up on this doesn't seem like an issue, quote is from Quattro Quaterly in 2011!
