Hi everyone,
I'm sure that this is a topic that goes round and round on a constant loop on all car forums but just after people's opinions.
I hate my brakes. I sound like an old London Routemaster bus when I pull up at lights or a zebra crossing. I've tried all the old tricks including taking it out last Sunday and driving it like I stole it. Done numerous 70-0mph full stops and to be fair, it fixed the squeaks for about.... the rest of that day! Following day back to normal again.
I have two types of squeal. I have a really high pitched squeal, quieter, as the vehicle stops from 15mph to 0mph. Then simultaneously there are louder squeals coming from each of the wheels randomly. This has been constant since I bought the vehicle last January. Are my discs scored? Up until the last couple of weeks, I would have said no way, although one of the front discs has one minor score across the middle. Apart from that, nothing. Never had a brake wear indicator flash up or nothing. Looks like the rear pads are down to 2-3mm.
It just winds me up as there seem to be so many that experience it and an equal amount that have no issues at all. Just wondering anyone that had it and changed discs and pads and it was solved? Also, are there any specific makes of discs and pads that seem to be squeak free?
I would happily throw money at this to make it go away, drives me fooking nuts. I have a friend that lives beside me that drives an M5 F10 and he's never had a squeak out it. Another friend a little further away that has a 2016 Bentley Con GT and again, never a squeak out of the brakes.
Squeaky brakes
Re: Squeaky brakes
Same issue with me - new discs and pads 22k miles, started squeaking day after they were replaced - have got used to it tbh - though it's going in for service today and the suspension issue, so will be asking them again to look at why they are squealing from around 15mph gentle braking to a stop - thats the only time that they squeal

Re: Squeaky brakes
I know there was a recent TPI on Squeaky Brakes for the RS4. Apparently it was to 'regrease' the pads. Don't know if there is one for the RS6 despite there being the same issue.
I've also heard that getting the discs skimmed in situ on the car helps with the problem of squeaky brakes however I don't know how reliable that is. I have a chronic squeaky brake on the RS4 and it definitely suffers from Disc Thickness Variation which apparently is part of the cause of squeaky brakes so skimming would potentially resolve this.

Re: Squeaky brakes
Is it just steel discs that owners have found to sometimes be a problem, as I've never noticed any intrusive noise from the C/Cs in over 12,000 miles?

Had disks skimmed with a procut, fixed the squeak circa 1 month.

Re: Squeaky brakes
I seem to recall a couple of owners moaning about noisy ceramics too (not sure if it was squeek or not though).
Re: Squeaky brakes
Clarkson is complaining about RS brakes in the Sunday Times today.
Re: Squeaky brakes
I won't carry on moaning but I have an ongoing argument with Audi. Almost down to metal on one side, the other side hadn't even tripped the pad warning light. Heavily scored discs too. Audi are adamant it's perfectly normal and within parameters! I have been waiting 2 weeks now for them to put it in writing so I can take it forward. It's not right even on a cheap run around, let along an RS6 and lots of us could be driving around with pads that are about to go metal on metal with no idea we won't stop if we need to.
