DRC pipe replacement question
Following on from my earlier question about replacing the DRC pipes, and I think I know the answer, but is it necessary/essential to remove the fuel tank when replacing the rear pipes? Only the bloody thing is nearly full of Shell's finest and I don't fancy getting a stomach full of it when trying to syphon the tank.
Also, is the fuel pump located in the tank itself?
Cheers

Re: DRC pipe replacement question
Not sure about fuel pump, but yes, the tank needs to come out.
Re: DRC pipe replacement question
The fuel pump is not inside the tank.

Re: DRC pipe replacement question
Thanks guys. Does anyone know if it's possible just to release the tank and support it, rather than complete removal?

Are you replacing the drc with drc?Audi Pardner wrote:Thanks guys. Does anyone know if it's possible just to release the tank and support it, rather than complete removal?
If so, it could well be an expensive job unless you know people at Audi...

Rs4 has 3 fuel pumps.RS4LAD wrote:The fuel pump is not inside the tank.
1 is LPFP (low pressure) is inside the tank.
And 2 HPFP are on top of the engine.
Tank needs to be dropped unfortunately
But you can drain it by using electronic pump like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/201409292889

Re: DRC pipe replacement question
Thanks Ilya, I'll order a pump.
mikep99 - yes, I'm replacing DRC with DRC, but not by my stealer. The Audi pipes are £160 each
so I'm using a garage mate to replace them before the stealer fleeces me £200 to recharge the system.

Have I just wasted my time buying a fuel filter from TPS then as a serviceable item?pule333 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2017 8:25 pmRs4 has 3 fuel pumps.RS4LAD wrote:The fuel pump is not inside the tank.

It’s due an oil change tomorrow and I asked Audi to do the pollen filter and fuel filter too
It’s had sparks and coils done recently With the full mrc works so I thought I’d just get it done.

Not sure why you think you wasted your time? If it's time to change fuel filter it's time to change.RS4LAD wrote:Have I just wasted my time buying a fuel filter from TPS then as a serviceable item?pule333 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2017 8:25 pmRs4 has 3 fuel pumps.RS4LAD wrote:The fuel pump is not inside the tank.

Re: DRC pipe replacement question
I only ask because Audi were quite surprised I asked for this. Apparently they’re a lifelong item and never need to be replaced?pule333 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2017 9:28 pmNot sure why you think you wasted your time? I really don’t understand why they’d be sold as a serviceable item and why it would be on the checklist in service book if that was the case?
Re: DRC pipe replacement question
Unit 20 replaced all my DRC pipes. If I remember correctly they dropped the fuel tank sufficiently to fit the pipes but didn't disconnect it.
They also replaced my fuel filter having advised to do so. The gunk which came out of the old one suggests this should not be a lifetime item as Audi claim.

Re: DRC pipe replacement question
Where you getting the pipes at that price? I spoke with TPS and Audi directly, the absolute lowest price they said they could do them for was £180+VAT each. They said they were some sort of coded part & the discount available was very limited. I also struggle to uunderstand how the pipes are each the same price when the rear ones are about 2 foot long compared to the fronts that are about 10 feet. The Audi pipes are £160 each![]()

Re: DRC pipe replacement question
The new pipes I got from the stealer aren't long - two are each about 18" long and two about a foot each. The part nos are U8E0 616 711F/712E/715 and 716 and they were £130.58 + VAT each. They didn't mention that I needed a 10' long pipe!Pistolpete2543 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2017 12:16 amWhere you getting the pipes at that price? Re: DRC pipe replacement question
Maybe I'm getting confused, but I've just done my DRC hard pipes, replaced all 4. There are 2 pipes which are single lengths that run all the way from the central valves under the boot floor to each front damper.
As for part numbers for the DRC pipes:-
8E0616861B - front left
8E0616862 - front right
8E0616861A - rear left
8E0616862B - rear right

Think those part numbers you've ordered are for flexis.
