B7 RS4 Interim Service Cost and Oil Type
B7 RS4 Interim Service Cost and Oil Type
Hi guys,
Car is saying it’s due a service in a 7 days. Called up the stealers and been quoted £350 for an oil change.
I refuse to pay this considering 10 litres of castrol edge can be bought from supermarkets at roughly around £80! Can I supply the oil and filter and just pay for labour?
Also another thing that’s been bugging me is the grade of oil. Iv been looking up and down all over the net on which to use (5W 30/5W 40) and I can see that both are used. What are the actual differences between them both and what oil would you recommend?
I looked at an invoice from MRC and it showed that Longlife 3 oil was used at the time, after a google search it came up with quantum 5w30 oil.
What should I do guys? What oil do you recommend?
Thanks in advance guys

5w30 is the right type. 5w40 will be thicker when hot.
I normally use Castrol Edge. I've never had any issues usingy own oil at dealerships before as long as it is sealed and conforms to VW spec 504 etc.
Also labour is cheaper for cars over 5 years old so make sure they've taken that onto account t.

Thanks mike, I appreciate it. Would you by any chance happen to know when gearbox oil and rear diff oil should be changed? Car is on just under 35k miles but I can’t see it being done anywhere in the paperwork so I wanted it done for peace of mind.MikeFish wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2017 5:46 pm5w30 is the right type. 5w40 will be thicker when hot.

They’re usually on offer in Tesco or Asda for £30-£35 for 4L and you can get a 1L for £10-£15 when they’re on offer too.

I've used Opie Oils in the past and had no problems but I ordered a load of oil on the 18th September for a service on the 29th. I sent an email on 26th to chase the dleivery. Had no response and still have no oil (service was last Friday).Munnkey wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2017 7:19 pmhttp://www.opieoils.co.uk/pv-98273-cast ... ilter=2007norman1979 wrote:Castrol Edge for £80 for 10 litres? +1 for Fuchs Titan - a proper ester based synthetic oil, unlike castrol edge.
A good indy will do a better job of a service than some random teenage spanner-monkey at a stealer. The only reason you'd go to a stealer is if you're concerned about keeping a full Audi service history

Faisal I would love to use a more superior oil but Audi will not service my car if it’s not approved.FaisalJ wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2017 11:32 pm+1 for Fuchs Titan - a proper ester based synthetic oil, unlike castrol edge.

I would much rather have a top Indy deal with my car such as unit 20 or mrc than a clueless apprentice at the stealers!!
And you’re right it’s purely to keep the full Audi history.

Fuchs is approved, I've had Southend Audi put it in my car for the last 3 services.

Took my car in today and they refused to service it with me supplying my own oil. Apparently they have never done this. Audi main dealer ran by Jardine motor group.
Re: B7 RS4 Interim Service Cost and Oil Type
Seems that some dealers will allow you supplying the oil and others won't.RS4LAD wrote:I wasn’t aware of this, thanks for this guys I’m definitely going to look into this.The_Coat wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2017 7:32 amRS4LAD wrote: Faisal I would love to use a more superior oil but Audi will not service my car if it’s not approved.

My friend is local to Chingford Audi and they won't have any of it when taking his RS5 in for a service so he now takes it to Southend.

Re: B7 RS4 Interim Service Cost and Oil Type
I bought the fuchs oil and supplied it to audi in Wakefield for oil change
£162 and they supplied the filter
Think it was going to be 300+ if they put there own oil in

Re: B7 RS4 Interim Service Cost and Oil Type
Right so after calling pretty much every Audi dealer in the midlands today only one agreed to let me supply my own oil! Apparently it’s something they are phasing out now as they ‘want to garuantee their work’. If I supply my own oil and filter the cost is £75 labour and a free health check.
