Attempted seat theft?

I did the following to protect my seats -

1 - Upgraded to Clifford alarm - it isn't the most sophisticated out there but it has its own interior sensors, blue dash LED and loud siren. I chose that one as it meant I kept the standard remote key to arm/disarm the alarm

Which Clifford did you fit? I'd like an upgrade which keeps the factory key for arm and disarm

Thanks for the responses so far.

The window is now sorted and ill be keeping the car in a friends secure car park until I get on top of the deterrents.

Ill report back on where I get to with the alarm but any more details on what people have gone for would be great. Sounds like proximity sensor, shock sensor, loud siren and second key fob with notification is a minimum.

It sounds like some people have welded the seat bolts and filled with epoxy. For those who have - details of where and how much would be great. If extortionate it sounds like Loctite is a good option. I assume this is taking the bolts out, coating and tightening again?

Mike - with the security film, I assume its needed on all windows including windscreen to be an effective deterrent?

These seats are being stolen due to 2 flaws with the oem alarm; it is almost silent and easily disabled.
An aftermarket alarm with proximity sensor that will beep at them when they peep in the windows will be a good detterent because it is much louder than the near silent oem alarm and they know it is not disabled as easily as the oem one from the courtesy light.
I would also fit some security film to the insides of the windows, as this should stop them even being able to get into the car to steal the seats and stop a lot of the damage that happens from breaking in and stealing ie the door cards damaged, seats ripped etc.

Absolutely right, fit anything other than the OEM alarm and it will 100% safer. It's so quiet it's a joke and if you rip the sensors out of the ceiling it doesn't even go off.

It’s not just the seats mate they also try with the flat bottom too. As suggested I’d upgrade the alarm, I personally have seat covers on mine and you can’t really tell what seats they are.
I’m looking to also get security film installed from autoasylum in Maidenhead. And I need to get myself a disklok!

Iv heard some people also Welding the bolts for the seats so they can’t be removed.

Normally only do the side windows, bit trickier to climb in an out of the windscreen and by the time they've tried to unsuccessfully break into 2 or 3 side windows they will hopefully scarper and an aftermarket alarm blaring at them will help too.

I have a Viper key fob (optional extra one) and it vibrates as well as beeps when the alarm is going off and also does the same if anyone triggers the dual zone proximity sensor by looking in through the windows.

Sorry to hear this. I have a clifford alarm, and protective film on drivers window. Also, the seat bolts have little ballbearings superglued into the tops of them. All done by previous owner.

Had the Viper system fitted by SecureMyCar when I bought mine 3 years ago. Expensive but worth it IMO.

I was reading another post about this and the question was asked about the strength of these bolts during an accident, not sure what the answer is in this case though.

I have the long range fob too. Only because I prefer the look of it. What you are trying to do is stop people from even attempting to break in. Lights which are obviously not OEM will help. Stickers showing alarm manufacturer will also help.

I got the flashing LED Sticker from Viper, it's displayed in the front window and lights my whole drive up when it flashes.

Yes, they take the seats through the windows.

Another issue with the standard alarm, you have to tell it to deadlock. My Viper auto deadlocks.

Just had a long chat with Antony from securemycar. He was very helpful and explained their move to the Pandora system. He also suggested that if others were interested they would be happy to come on here and explain the system and answer any questions. Not sure what the forum rules are on this but he also suggested that they have been considering a more formal relationship with a forum and RS246 was one of them given historic flow of customers from the site.

I am going to go ahead with this and inquired about the possibility of getting a discount if others were interested. He said no guarantee but if I was to get 4/5 others interested he would see what he could do. Let me know if this would be of interest and we can go from there.
