Manifold flap delete

Post by maizyboy » Wed Sep 20, 2017 10:36 am

Anyone have experience of manifold flap deletion ? Booking mine for a carbon clean, getting EPC light regularly, thinking it might get the deletion kit while the manifold is off anyway. What's the feedback ?

What’s the benefit of doing the mod?

More torque at the top end and you won’t lose the flaps as they known to come loose.

Ok. So how do they work normally?

Is there a trade off? Lose of low down torque when removed?

Just had mine done. During carbon cleaning they discovered one the the flap arms was broken. The plastic joint had fractured and is quite common to break which meant only one banks flaps where opening and the other was stuck about half way.

So they commonly remove them. ECU remap is not Required but recommended. ECU will not throw a code as the actuators still move but dont move anything.

They then close the holes with frost plugs.

I also had my primary and secondary cats removed and disabled and then a full ECU remap with dyno tune. All up I gained about 30HP but inxluded carbon clean, cats and deflap (with oil change and new plugs)

Slight loss of HP down low. Slight increase uptop.

Hope that helps

Did they remove the arms or just the flaps?

The downside is that acceleration is lumpy until the car is warm. Feels like there's a misfire sometimes, but no issues once warmed up

Flap remove will lower the cold start idle level. The cold start RPM pickup is mainly the flap positioning choking the intake. Which i confirmed with the tuner after the mod was done. Rpm on cold start only goes to 1200rpm

Mine doesnt have any lumps. Runs smooth cold or hot after flap delete.
