Just a remark: Audi has a new map from may 2017 correcting the misfire.MikeFish wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2017 8:05 pmThe PE uses different spark plugs to the non PE. Also all RS6 suffer from high misfires although most of the time it goes unnoticed. I thought Audi change the spark plugs as a cure. I assumed they were rolling out the PE plugs to the non-PEs becuase of this but maybe it's not the case, maybe they are changing PE plugs to a different type too. When MRC tune this engine they change the spark plugs to a different type.

Re: spark plugs
Not heard this before Mike. I get some very slight, occasional, stutters, usually at a constant motorway speed. I'd always assumed it was switching from 4 to 8 cylinders? FYI I have a PE.MikeFish wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2017 8:05 pmThe PE uses different spark plugs to the non PE. Also all RS6 suffer from high misfires although most of the time it goes unnoticed. Re: spark plugs
I don't have any noticeable misfires but after someone on here started a topic about their misfires I plugged my laptop in and found a real high number of misfires on one cylinder in particular (think it was cylinder 5). Most of the cylinders had a hundred or so but one cylinder was in the thousands.
Re: spark plugs
My old one used to do it... x 3 times over approx 15k miles.

Re: spark plugs
Could this amount of misfires on one cylinder cause it to fail ??? I'm sure you know why I ask the questionMikeFish wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2017 11:13 pmI don't have any noticeable misfires but after someone on here started a topic about their misfires I plugged my laptop in and found a real high number of misfires on one cylinder in particular (think it was cylinder 5). Re: spark plugs

Yes, this is the reason why you will see thousands of 'misfires' in the counters.
The only time you need to worry about an engine misfire is when you see the EML flicker. At that point, don't let it flicker again (stay off boost) and immediately check your plugs.

Re: spark plugs
The plugs are not that accessible. There is quite a lot of gubbins to be taken off in order to access them - certainly on the O/s.

Re: spark plugs
All C7 4.0TT (S/RS) these days should come with the latest version: 06K905601M
Wasn't aware of the PE having different sparks compaired the normal RS/S?
Recently replaced my spark plugs on my 4.0TT, was bit a work due to coolant reservoir and cable boom just over the coils/sparks, but it is doable
.
I had/still have some misfires, especially on cylinder 1 & 6. New spark plugs and changing coils places kinda ruled out this was the issue
.
Made my tuner remove COD aswell, much more 'relaxed' engine (stage 2 + aftermarket exhaust/catless), it didn't however reduced the misfires....

When you changed your plugs, did you replace them with the same original stock plugs again or did you change the brand/brand?
Im running a stage 2, Decat, akrapovic, downpipes etc.. And wondering if it's beneficial to upgrade the plugs also?

Re: spark plugs
MRC change the plugs (for a different brand) when they do a stage 2.
Re: spark plugs
I have S6 (2013), previous owner had sparkplugs changed 20.000km ago but it where still the 'G' revisions (irrilavant for the RS models as they never came with those). Currently stage 2, so swapped to the 'M' OEM (NGK) spark plugs. The OEM plugs should be more then enough, i suppose MRC replaces them with the 'race' NGK ones. From what i read, proper plug gapping is more important (and should eliminate a lot of misfires).
@jipettersen: do you happen to have a 'software' number of that update? Again not for my (as this is a specific update for the RS, known issue with cilinder 5)....
COD indeed gives some 'odd/powercuts/stutters' especially on tuned and aftermarket exhausts. I recently got it deactivated aswell and a pleasure now
(and hopefully one expensive maintance/failure safer: motormounts!).

These are the plugs recommended for a stage 2:dasquade wrote:I have S6 (2013), previous owner had sparkplugs changed 20.000km ago but it where still the 'G' revisions (irrilavant for the RS models as they never came with those).
