I used to have it when i swapped from stock exhaust to milltek. The left one (drivers) side wouldn't open. I couldn't figuer it out, so untill i found out why i had loosen up the actuator, manually turned open and soft bolted it back on. Drove a half year around with it untill i recently decided to check again. Realigned the spring and valueplate...and what you know, it was correct now.
*since then i installed a CETE value controle module. I can now independant of drive mode controle the values if needed (you can bypass it and stays), but you can activate it to behave in all modes aswell).
Not a help really, but yes i had it also and somehow self corrected itself :s.

Thanks ! For me its OPEN all the time.
I also have Milltek and the valve control module from MTM working in more or less the same way as you describe.
Visited the Audi dealer today to check for errors with their AUDI Diagnose system but there was none! They disconnected the Valve controller to see if helped but it didnt. So they booked me up for a new appointment next week to take a closer look. They state it could be the electro motor actuating the valve. If not it could be in the ECU?????

Story is , when brand new car in jan 17 the dealer installed this MTM valve controle module and i was a little disappointed since there was very little change in sound level open/closed.
Next in feb i had MTM tuning of the engine at a MTM dealer. Before tuning they used Vag Com to check for any errors in the car. There was just one error showing "exhaust valves" or something set the date the valve unit was installed. They did a reset and there was a significant difference in sound level. This tells me only one valve had been working until that point .
After reset it was working seamlessly until last friday i picked the car up after a left front brake disk replacement at Audi.

Strange.

Problem solved by myself. The spring connection from the exhaust valve motor and the valve itself was "out of position".

Yes just left front ! The others was OK.
Audi claim it must be a rapid cooling like cold water on a very hot disk. Warranty refused but covered by the sales dep.
Dont like this and never happen before on any of my cars.

Yes thats correct behavior regardless of Milltek or not. And when you stop the car in COMFORT valves open for next run.

But as i stated in post over, the spring connected to valves and motor was out of position. Easy fix.

You mean in comfort shut engine? When you shut engine in comfort valves stay open, when you start car in comfort valves closed automatically

I mean. When i shut down the engine in COMFORT mode and then look at the valves they are fully open.
Then when you start the car again in COMFORT mode the valves are open but close again after a few seconds (warm engine in Comfort)

So it's normal

I’ve been having this exact issue. I know it’s an old post but I’ve got a 2015 s7 with apr exhaust. The Shop ended up swapping actuators bc the driver side kept staying closed. We unplugged them as per your post and just going to give it some time and plug them back in later.

We shall see lol.

In regards to OP. We tried to swap and realign the actuators and nothing was working right. Leaving them open all the time isn’t ideal bc it’s got a lot more droning now but 🤷🏻‍♂️

Idk if you’ve got any other ideas

Not sure what valves APR use but milltek used valves with additional little spring under the valve (i suppose against rattling flap or give it some extra tension). But over time exhaust carbon fills up the cilinder with spring and therefor the OEM spring can't push the valve downwards enough and valve keeps in lock position (small lip).
SInce i removed the little spring on both sides, they been working flowless in combination with the cete exhaust module (manual overwrite + memory).
